    Geometry Tapping

You have probably learned how to properly set braces and set objects for merging objects with map geometry. Odds are, you probably don't like the long process and might not even include it in your maps. Fret no more, Zanitor has found a way to geo-merge without the pain of bracing it. You can still brace it for more accuracy but it is not really needed. I'm afraid that if you are not familiar with geo-merging already, you may get lost in the what we are trying to say. No worries, we got you covered. For certain terminalogy, and just for reference, visit the links provided.

    Requirements

    • You must be forging with one or more person(s) over Xbox Live.
    • Halo 3
    • Xbox 360
    • Cannot have Connection Host

    Procedure
Fine Print: Only people without host can do this!
Step 1. Invite people to your forge session.

Step 2.Select an item that you would like to geo-merge. There are some items that do not geo-merge automatically. Most of them are ones that are filled such as Double-Boxes and Single Boxes.

    Step 3
. In Monitor Mode, get as close as you can to the side of the object you want to geo-merge. In this case it would be the base of a Y Intersection Tunnel.

Step 4. Tap the "A" Button multiple times until the desired side is below the ground.

Step 5. Save if necessary to make it stay still. Admire your accomplishment and rotate and move it appropriately.

    Step 6
. Build the rest of your map.

    Successes
    [IMG]

    • All Types of Tunnels
    • Wall Corners
    • Tin Cup
    • Shield Door
    • T Walls
    • Scaffolding
    • Possibly others

    Failures

    • Double Boxes
    • Singles Boxes
    • We have now discovered that the y intersection will not save in the crypt floor :(

You can still contribute! Go into forge, test objects and report back here with your results! This thread will be updated accordingly!

    Happy Forging!

    wait a sec.
no objects need to be interlocked to the top?
All you need is an A button and Save and quit?
And how much does it go down per save/quit?

You really don't have to save a quit, but I have not played around a ton with to see how far I can make it go down. And yes A button, and get your monitor inside of the Y intersection as close as you can to the floor and tap a until it goes in. If you would like I could get on and show you?

Why do you need to invite people? Has it got something do with not being the connection host?

*EDIT* Just re-read it and noticed that you don't have to be the connection host.

I had a couple of people in my party trying to do it, but we had a little trouble. It would be perfect on his screen but when I started a new round or saved it, it would be off a little. It might of had something to do with their connection since you seemed to have no trouble. Anyways good find....

I've been doing this for a long time, and it will always look a little different one each persons' screen. The best advice I can give for it is to 1) use braces while doing it. I've done that and it helps a lot, though there is more risk of it going through the braces than there is with normal interlocking and 2) use this technique only with merges that don't need to be perfect.

    Is this a sandbox-only technique?

This technique can be performed on any map with immovable objects.

Yeah it works with Double Open Boxes on foundry, and shield doors on any map.

It also works with Fence Boxes on Foundry. I guess anything that is open?

Very nice tutorial Zanitor! Might use it in my next map! If I ever think of something to make on the middle tier.

Also if you ever redo your tremors map it is great for those type of things.
