Should Halo 3 have been given AI?

    Hi people,

Just wondering should halo 3 been given an AI multi-player mode. As this would have given halo a much better rating and more people would have bought it also it would give it better chance now as Gears of war 2 has an AI multi-player and with halo 3 recon coming out I cant see it being as good as halo 3. I asked myself this question mounths ago but never through of posting it. As you can see halo wars was given an AI mutli-player but why not halo 3.

So should halo 3 have an AI multi-player mode? :)

I think Halo 3 multiplayer is too hard to program for a bot.
It just doesn't play like any other shooter around, it's too.. Well, player-controlled.

Besides, bots wouldn't have enough insight to play in forged maps.

I dunno, I'm not a programmer, but I think this'd be incredibly hard to make.

It would not have increased sales for the game, or the rating. At the time, very few games have AI bots and most of them sucked, hence there was no need for Halo to compete on that front. It's about online multiplayer, and what was said by the user above me is correct. Halo is not just run and shoot, it revolves around several things that make it unique. Weapon control, jumping, etc. That would be near impossible to program into a bot, if not impossible. They would be far to easy, so in the end the only people they would benefit would be those without Live, and that is a small minority.

    That makes no sense.

H3 ODST is the same as Halo 3 but with a different campaign, 3 extra multiplayer maps and the oppertunity to get Recon armour. Seeing as we already have AI in campaign, the only way that would a relevant point is if you were comparing the multiplayer side, which makes no sense because its exactly the same + new maps and Recon, how can't it be as good as Halo 3? It is Halo 3!

AI in multiplayer? I'm sure it would be pretty fun if it was done right and we could finally set up **** Zombies! ODST in the Autumn then a gap of a few years, maybe even a new console before Bungie's next game. Who knows what we'll be seeing in the future but I'm sure Bungie will only put AI in their next game (not ODST) if they can get it right.

The only way AI could be incorporated into the game is if they made it for the original maps. As said above, programming AI into forge maps is near impossible. As for the "Defend the Base" like survival (Ex: **** Zombies) It would probably have something to do with the campaign or campaign related I think. For example, you know the level "The Covenant", how you have to take out the energy shields? A good example would be you have to defend some base while the shields are being put down, then you keep moving to other bases untill you succeed. This, I think, would be better than rounds at a time. You could be able to change the difficulty and get achievemants for it too.

I don't know about this one Woody.. haven't you played campaign yet? The AI in Halo 3 just isn't that great. I mean, look at Gears of War 2 for example. They stuck AI bots into multiplayer and in my opinion it was a mess. They would chase each other in circles. They would run into walls. They would even try to use the shotgun at long range! Halo 3 just seems unfit for AI bots in multiplayer.

Although you might think that AI bots would have given Halo 3 a better rating and higher sales (Which doesn't really need improving at all). Play through campaign a bit, and you might just realize how annoying the AI bots in it really are. Although it might add a new way to practice instead of going into matchmaking, it just doesn't seem like Halo 3 to me.

Like a few people above me said, how would you program AI bots to follow commands? To not just run out and die? How would you program an AI bot to perform all of these jumps. Also, seeing as most people play on custom made maps now, how would the AI know what to do? They wouldn't know what was on the map or anything at all!
