    Superman comic sells for $317,200

NEW YORK — A rare copy of the first comic book featuring Superman has sold for $317,200 (U.S.) in an Internet auction. The previous owner had bought it for less than a buck.
It's one of the highest prices ever paid for a comic book, a likely testament to the volume's rarity and its excellent condition, said Stephen Fishler, co-owner of the auction site ComicConnect.com and its sister dealership, Metropolis Collectibles.
The winning bid for the 1938 edition of Action Comics No. 1, which features Superman lifting a car on its cover, was submitted Friday evening by John Dolmayan, drummer for the rock band System of a Down, according to managers at ComicConnect.com.
Mr. Dolmayan, who is also a dealer of rare comic books, said he acquired the Superman comic on behalf of a client he declined to identify.

“This is one of the premier books you could collect,” he said in a telephone interview. “It's considered the Holy Grail of comic books. I talked to my client, and we made the move.”
Mr. Dolmayan said the client has “a small collection, but everything he has is incredible.”
Only about 100 copies of Action Comics No. 1 are known to exist and they seldom come up for sale.
“Maybe in a booming economy, it would have done a hundred grand more, but in this economy, I think the price is great,” Mr. Fishler said.
The man who had previously owned the book purchased it in a secondhand store in the early 1950s when he was nine years old.
    He paid 35 cents.

Hot Damn. Three hundred grand! That's mad.

This makes me doubt I'd ever be able to acquire Batman#1.

That's issue 6. 5k isn't too bad though. If I ever had that much money to throw away, I'd do it.

edit: uh oh, 25k... Yeah, I'll never get issue#1

Don't forget it's American 25k, I have no idea how much that's Australian.

What I find funny is I can buy this Flash Comic in the comic shop for 6 dollars, and it's in great condition, but in this site it's $610 and it's in worse condition.

Yep sounds good... One bad thing is though, Stephan is dying to do something with me on the weekend. Ugh, so he might see us going into a comic shop.

Collectors love their comic books...makes me wonder how much I'd be able to get for comics that I read when I was a kid. Pretty insane that someone would spend over 300k on some paper with colored ink printed onto it.

This gives me an idea for a crazy moneymaking scheme that just might work.....

300,000 grand. Damn I wouldn't pay that much for a book. I don't care what people say obsessing over a non-reality is crazy.... *hides that he bought mythic maps on ebay*

Superman sure looks serious about smashing that car into that rock. I'm not really sure if the situation calls for such a determined expression.

It's cause spandex wasn't invented yet. Wool itches like hell, and he's obviously got a case of the red-ass.

Wow. My dad has a huge collection of Spiderman comics. I'm going to sort through them and see if any are rare.

If he has any from the 60's and in good condition, they'll probably be worth some good money.
