Sandbox Awakened

    This once desolate forerunner nuclear fusion site has become a hotly contested area by UNSC and Covenant forces since it's awakening.

    Alright, I already have a sky bubble map and a crypt map, what's next? a boring old ground map... yep... mmhmm...

    Anyways, Awakened is just something i came up with while trying to think of ways to possibly use the killball in any sort of competitive map. Well, here it is! Actually the killball serves mostly aesthetic purposes but is a great distraction.

    This map has 2 symmetrical bases at either end of a 8-pronged flower-like structure in the middle. Hovering above this 8-pronged structure is a kill ball. (this is where the whole "nuclear fusion site" thing comes in) Each side has even numbers of weapons and vehicles and equal access to equipment.

    The map has already been set up for Slayer, Capture the Flag, Assault, Oddball and King of the Hill (Oddball and KOTH being the least fun).

    Let's get to the pics.

    Here is an overview of the map. you can see the middle structure and the 2 bases, along with some unique cover items.

    The bases are a lot like default sandbox bases, but with more open areasand the bottom has been hollowed out with a tunnel that has 1 front entrance and 2 rear entrances. Here is a front shot:

    The middle level of the base now has sightlines to the front and sides via slit walls. The sniper rifle spawns by the middle slit wall in the base and the missile pod under the base in the split tunnel. Here is a rear view:

    This is the middle structure. As you can see, the laser spawns dead center under the kill ball. (Don't worry, the kill ball is too high for any amount of accidental jumping to get you there). Yes the platform is raised for a reason, and the prongs are also not smooth for a reason. The same reason. Because this area holds a power weapon, great vantage points, and access to the tops of both bases i wanted to make it a little more difficult to traverse. It helps to even the field.

    This shot shows the mancannon, the front tunnel entrance, and also shows you the "X" structure, which has 2 crossing rails that are slightly off center from eachother to allow you to climb to the top of them.

    This is the Vehicle cache. Each team has a Warthog, 2 Mongeese, and a TRANSPORT Hornet.

    Lastly, never, EVER, waste a life going for an assassination while the bomb countdown is getting to zero...

    This looks really good, i have to say im pretty dang impressed with the interlocking, It adds a GREAT aesthetic feel to the map :) And do I see some geomerging in picture 2?? oh nvm, its impossible on sandbox right? I've forged Many times on sandbox but i haven't found a use to geomerge so i've never tried. anyway,

    geomerging is possible, you just have to go back to the old method ie. interlock, brace push. I personally think that many vehicles is pointless as your not going to have that many players using them. Side from that great map. I like the design, although i've yet to see the killball used in a competitive map that isn't simply a 'sun'.

    Nice layout, and I love the Name. I like the base design and the Center Structure, and the Killball adds a nice touch to the map. a solid 4/5!

    im very impressed with this map, especially with a newcomer. the only thing i might suggest is probably to add 4 assault rifles, and take out 2 plasma nades. there should be 2 at each base and 2 in the middle by the splazer. also consider adding more frags and placing them with the AR/BR spawns. this overall is a great map and i cant wait to play it. 5/5

    Wow. I just now realized when you said that that i didn't put any AR's on there. I used sandbox stacked to make it and the original sandbox doesn't have any. :/

    But will do. I didn't see it necessary to put in more frags because everyone will spawn with those but I'm more testing tonight and we will see how it goes. Everyone is free to join. Just PM me

    very original.
    the map looks very solid. i love what you have done with the interlocking it certainly adds a beautiful asthetic and gameplay element. congrats to u good sir!!

    as well i like the overall layout of the map simple but very cool.

    i am for sure gonna downlaod this map.

    Nice aesthetics. I agree with the vehicle comment above. Maybe take out the hornets. Other than that I see some nice originality in your interlocking. Good Job 4/5

    [EDIT] One thing that I'd change is adding tunnel ramps to the Y Tunnel section you have as part of the base. It will get to be annoying having to jump over the lip to get inside. It looks like you have it on some but not all of the tunnel sections. Not sure if this is intentional or you forgot to add.

    I saw the lack of ramps when i was posting the pictures to the thread. I have since gone back and fixed it. The new version was on my fileshare before anyone even posted here but thank you.

    About the hornets, they dont serve much of a purpose on the map except for transport. The kill ball is like a big "don't even try" sign and with that shutting down their control of the middle and the fact that each team has their own missile pod and a laser to fight over in the middle, it would have to be somewhat of a perfect storm of events for the hornet to have that much effect. But i will see how it goes tonight when i am testing for changes to make for v2

    this is probaly one of the best sandbox ground maps so far except for utah mambo of course but anyway. i really like the center piece, and the kill isnt just asthetics iwill probaly make most people in the hornets avoid that central area of the map so that they wont accidently fly into it. So the center could be a good spot to hang out if there are hornets flyin around. the weapon set looks pretty good and balanced also. you have my download hopefully i can get a game or two goin later tonight 5/5

    The map looks really good. You have some very original structures and sufficient looking cover. In the third pic you have no ramp leading up to the tunnel. Everything looks very good though and I love the aesthetics of the center structure. Very well done.

    The only thing I immediately feel needs changing is the Hornet. It's just so out of place on this map, especially given there are no structures for it to fly around.

    I would agree with that. If the hornet is to be kept, then perhaps the missile pods should be turned into plasma pistols or 2 hit rocket launchers? Otherwise, they really wouldn't do that much...

    wow, that centre piece is beautiful, it looks really well made. But i dont really like the loook of the bases, you should add more asthetics to them, that would make your map epic, good job on this map though

    Thank you for that great explanation that you typed in all white font...


    Pictures look pretty decent however. I like the pole-like structures you put everywhere and the picture with the mancannon looks pretty smooth.
    I suggest you get more pictures tho.

    Font problem solved. I wasnt aware that people had backgrounds other than dark gray. my baaaad

    quite the inspiring aesthetic you have here, complementing what seems to be a pretty straight-forward but solid layout (which is a great combo). The Tube Y-Intersections in each base look like they could use some tube ramps, but I'll have to take a closer look in game before making any brash assumptions. Looks good though, I'll get back to ya.

    Oh and if you're wondering why it says I edited your map post.. when you edited it to make the font color change back to gray, you colored the DL link gray as well, and it took me about 5 minutes to find lol. So I went in and took the color change off of the link so its blue again and more noticeable.
