I'm making a poster (basically an ad for a school event) for school and I was wondering what template size of you guys would recommend. I'm using the newest version of GIMP and it would be really helpful if you could tell me what sizes to use. I'm somewhat new at this and I would very grateful if someone helped me out, preferably someone who has also made a poster before.

Well, if you're thinking about printing this poster, I'd suggest 11x17 with a dpi of 300. Why? Because most standard printers don't print any larger than 11x17 and even if you did go to office max or something, it's a whole lot more expensive to print any larger. However, most posters are 18x24, I believe... but 11x17 should do well for a school function.
