Some of you may have seen my Fallout 3 thread. Now I'm posting the same thing but for Left for Dead. Basically I need a new game because although halo is fun, I need something to take a break with every once in awhile. So I was wondering about L4D. I think it looks fun, but the main question I have is would you recommend it, even for a jumpy gamer? To put this in perspective, I hate getting scared, especially by things like those images that pop up of like the exorcist girl or something then a scream. Does L4D have any of that? Also, hows the gameplay and what not? On a more general note, does anyone have any games they'd recommend to someone looking for a new game? Anything recent or coming out in the near future? here's my current list of games i own: -Halo 3 -COD4 and World at War -Far Cry 2 -Assassin's Creed -Portal -GTA4 -Skate
Well first of all, if you are a jumpy gamer, then maybe left 4 dead is not for you. There are many moments when I found myself surprised by a hunter, or a boomer, as they can attack you from out of nowhere, but on the other hand, when you are playing the game it is often just a fast paced shooter, with zombies of course. I recommend getting more opinions, or maybe watch some gameplay footage. If you do not own it along with portal, I highly recommend getting Half-Life 2, maybe get Gears of War, or Gears 2 if you are into more tactical gameplay. I'm not really sure other than that. Hope I helped.
Well I guess I should clarify, I mean like i can be surprised, that's fine. that's happened to me a lot in games like halo where i'll turn around and there will be someone right there. but just scary stuff like horror movies i don't exactly like all that much. idk, i feel like ***** lol but whatever
There's a summary at the bottom if you don't want to read the whole thing. Well, Left 4 Dead is scary in that "What's going to happen next?" sense, with a few jump moments thrown in. It has a good mix of eerie scariness and jump moments. But, after playing it for a little while, you will get pretty used to it, and as of now I almost never get scared but maybe once a game if I'm lucky. You need to know that L4D has four campaigns, each ranging in at about an hour each on average. If you aren't interested in beating the campaigns on higher and higher difficulties, then you will maybe play each one two to three times before getting bored of them. I personally love it and it feels like a new experience everytime thanks to the game's AI director, which will spawn enemies, weapons, health, explosives, and bosses based on how well your team is doing. The game seems to accommodate to your abilities, rather than you trying to meet its requirements. Finally, versus mode allows you to play as the special zombies themselves, which is a complete blast. You can be a high jumping Hunter who will pin his target to the ground, a tall Smoker who will grab a survivor with its 100 foot tongue and strangle them to death, and a Boomer who will barf on the survivors and attract a ton of zombies, as well as explode his zombie-attracting bile on the survivors when killed. All in all, it's a lot of fun with scary moments only present the first few times you play. Some people will feel like they are playing the same thing over and over again, while others will take into consideration the item/enemy placement and notice that it really is different everytime. Summary: Left 4 Dead is a fun game that has a scary moment the first time you play, but you will get used to it fairly quickly and not get scared as easily. Some people will love playing it over and over again, while some will feel like they are doing the exact same thing over and over again. Rent it to see which one you are. However, if you are only planning on playing this every once in a while to get away from Halo 3, this would be right up your alleyway. the breaks will allow it to feel new every time you play it, and you will most likely enjoy it alot more. It's definitely one of the best games I have ever played, and I hope I helped.
So update (idk am I supposed to edit or no? sorry if this is considered double posting!) I got Left 4 dead because it was on sale at target for $40. Definitely worth the purchase. and it isn't really scary at all like i thought. i only got scared once because i got separated from my team and i heard a witch nearby...luckily i avoided that encounter. but yeah it looks like this should keep me busy for a month. it reminds me of like a videogame version of 28 days later...but not the dumb halo remake of it lol
L4D isn't that long, compared to other games, and you should be able to beat it(all 4 campaigns) in about four hours, given you are not a total noob. Personally the versus mode is the only thing I like about it, but it's a great game overall. ($40? Lucky! I had to get it from my friend for $70 because I couldn't find it at Target, or Gamestop
Left 4 Dead is 100% the best choice of a game to get at the moment right now. The new DLC is coming out soon and its free, so I recommend that you buy it. It is probably the best cooperative game of all time.
Well.... In simple terms, If you know about the 4 campaigns: Death Toll, Dead Air, No Mercy, and Blood Harvest, Death Toll and Dead Air are being added onto versus mode. So far only Blood Harvest and No Mercy have been. I dont know why they did that. Anyway another new thing they are adding is a new game mode called Survival. They didnt get into detail with it, but it sounds sweet.
They said that certain elements of the levels made them unbalanced for one team or the other. If you notice on BH and NM, there are several set pieces and other things that are different in Versus than they are in Campaign.
I'm guessing survival is going to be sort of like **** Zombies in COD: WaW Man this game is epic. It really captures the craze of fighting hordes of zombies. Everytime I finish a campaign I have to sit back and play halo or somethign for awhile because i have such an adrenaline rush.
I'm a jumpy gamer also (a grunt poped in my face and it scared the hell outa me) but that don't realy stop me. L4D is more funny than scary just grab some friends and you'll be kick'n zombies scum in no time. Seriously, get it, i don't have it for the 360 but on my pc. The only thing i found jumpy was the witch... It said i desturbed it and i couldn't find it but then it pops up and owns my ass XD So I recomend you get it.
lol man i've been trying to get that cr0wned achievement...so hard. its so damn creepy i'll go up to a witch and it will just slowly turn towards me and i'm like OH **** WTF!!
