Forging 101: Floating Objects [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8vdKuCn0dw&rel=1"]YouTube- ForgeHub Video Tutorial #1: Floating Objects[/ame] One of the most frequently asked questions that people ask us is "How do I make objects float?" Well the answer is actually quite simple. In order to make objects float you will need the assistance of another player or an extra control. Have another player hold a crate or container in the air at the desired floating location and height. Then place the object you wish to have float on top of the crate. Once the object is stable delete the crate, and you will have a floating object. Note that all objects do not stay suspended and will fall from the height whenever they respawn. Some objects that fall include fusion cores and weapons. Other objects will stay suspended until they are hit or bumped by a player so you cannot use this method alone to create floating platforms, but the method can be applied effectively to teleporters, weapon holders, and other various objects. In later Forge 101 topics I will explain how to apply this method to make a series of constant falling fusion cores and how to make floating platforms.
There is another way to float objects if you are working solo. Once you place the object where you want (and before releasing it), save and quit Forge. When you return, the object will be floating right where you left it. It's a tad more tedious but works just as well.
Or, if you're by yourself, you can hold a teleporter node where you want it to be, save while still holding it and then end game. Enter the game wnad it will be floating. This is reccomended for stuff high above the ground or above uneven ground that you can't stack on top of.
Hi all, I have actually made a film clip a while back in Halo 3 showing a method on how to float objects in midair, by yourself, without having to use "Save & Quit", "Stack" or "Extra Player" methods. If you go to my fileshare, you will see how I devised a method for "Floating solo" on a common map, Sandtrap. I am able to bring a teleporter node to the top of the map in about, oh, 10-15 seconds. No extra player, no stacking, no save & quit. My fileshare doesn't get a lot of traffic, but this one has received the most attention, so I have left it up there for all to learn from. great tips abpove, thanks all. In addition, how do i make shield doors float? cant seem to figure it out & they behave a bit different to most objects, any advice? just read Advanced Floating technique, will this do it?
Shield doors you have to place horizontally and use the save and quit technique. True, don't you think it would be easier to post the video here as well, then you could read up on it and then watch the video to better grasp it.
I find that placing them against a wall, then S&Q, will make them look much straighter. Its hit-and-miss if you just let it float out there with nothing guiding it. -dumb cat
This annoyed me so much that I decided to register an account to tell everyone (Although I will stay a regular member because the site's great). Many others have probably noticed this error but in case they did not I suppose I'll tell you. The easiest way to make objects float is to stack objects on top of one another until the object you want floating is at the desired height. Once you've done that, delete the objects under the top object and the top object will remain in midair. This allows you to make objects float by yourself without leaving the game. I always figured this was common sense because I've always done it like this but I suppose not.
Um, no offense, but this IS common knowledge here. This discussion has moved on to advanced techniques that are not as convenient/possible with this "common method." Please be sure to read discussions in their entirety before posting. Thanks! --dumb cat
Well if somone who knows nothing comes on this site and reads the 101s, they won't learn this method. If they want to put this site to full use, they should probably add in every method possible. i'm Iot trying to act like I know more than anyone here, because I assumed most forum users knew of this but if it's the easiest known method, I'd assume a tutorial site for forge would add it, wouldn't you?
Third post from top. Laws of physics also dictate that stacking objects is one of many ways to get an object above the ground. Happy Forging! --a dumb cat
is there some way to make objects instant respawn??? Such as a radio antenna? It usually has to wait until the object has disappeared before it respawns. ive used run-time minimum but it still doesnt instant respawn objects only other bits
An object must be destroyed, or it must disappear before the respawn settings kick in. If a radio antenna is knocked over, it will not respawn in its original location until it disappears, unless the run-time maximum is set to accomodate more than one of that object on the map. --dc
