That's how you learn, you do it all. While one cannot make great work on their own, one should confront every aspect of the film making process in order to understand it. One thing that really annoys me is people say they want to Direct, and yet have no idea what it means to direct. As a director, you have creative control, but you can't just say and expect everyone else to do. You have to be able to get on the level of actors, speak the language of camera operators, make sure your DP and yourself both have similar visions for the film. It is alot of work, and one cannot just pick up a camera and direct.

I understand covering the basics, but I was simply saying I have to do it all myself. I have no team to help me out, I have no other resources from which to draw new and fresh ideas. Other than getting a few people I know to act (if its an acting film, I haven't really had one like that yet) I'm basically on my own. And I can't ask other students for help, because the teacher worked hard from the first day to make the class feel like a competition. Even though we arn't working against each other everyone feels the need to not help anyone out, and keep ideas to themselves.

Well, my first ever live action piece I did was very bad... I mean was done entirely by me. It was a poem, and I just set the camera down, pressed record, counted off in my head, and then began to act. That is how it all began, and you are more than capable of doing something like that. Also family and friends. While I do think one should not use them when other resources are available, when you are starting off it gets the job done. Just keep in mind, it is all in story and proper execution. If you have a good story, either it will pull the whole piece through, or be destroyed by bad technical. However, the technical basics (such as camera placement, sound, and editing) are so simple if you have patience.

Im pretty sure I want to be a Physical Therapist. Right now, Im only a Sophmore in highschool, but I've researched it, and I know what college classes to take. I've always been amazed about what they can do to help people out.

Never feel too young to plan for the future. I am only a sophomore as well, and I look around me and see people who have no clue what they want to do with their lives. Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors even. Hell, I knew what I wanted in 7th grade, and I am still working on it.

I'm studying for the IT industry. Specifically network management. I'm volunteering for a computer lab setter-upper organization, interning at an advertising company, and cramming for the CCNA exam which I want to take during the summer.

Yeah that's true but my uncle was inf back in nam, hes kind of weird now though, can't blame him though. My dad works on a ship that brings loads of equipment back and forth but I don't spend a lot of time with him because he's usually out for 6 months and back for 4. What branch were you in?

Yeah that was one ideal, the only one based on a already developed story

I still got 2 years to think about these descisions.

The army ****s people up. The government gives the soldiers antidepressants during the war to keep morale up, then dumps the vets back into the cities.

HAHAHAHA he hasn't even got his finger on the trigger.

Make sure you enjoy what you do. My ideal job is a standard 8 hour day with decent pay, I don't want to overwork for copious amounts of money.

My advice is short and simple: Do what you love, and the money will follow.

If you're truly passionate and devoted to something, then your efforts will eventually be recognized in one way or another.

Funny how this turned into "Your dream job" thread, but why not participate. Anyway, I have rough ideas of what careers I'd like to...'experience' so to speak. Let me mention that I don't want the Business Idolized man who works 6 hours, comes home, enjoys family, sleep, and repeat. I want to do multiple jobs, in multiple expositions.

    Artist
My first brainstorm was to become a vocalist/singer/artist. My opinion on today's music is this. You don't even need vocal talent, but rhythm, beat, catchy vocals, etc. I feel anyone can create a hit record, which is obviously true. I enjoy Hip-hop/rap, but have to face the harsh truth that white rappers aren't appreciated as much as black. That is my opinion, and I'm not trying racially associate, or racial profiling, it just seems that is they way it works. Oh, and excluding Eminem form that ordeal.

    Youtube
This may sound ludicrous, and requires me already being a vocalist, or a celebrity (Lol). But it is youtube. From what I know, and see 'rapper' Soulja Boy has recieved millions just from youtube. How? Well, since he is a youtube partner he recieves a commission for a certain criteria on his videos. That said criteria is the views of said video, and comments on said video. Here are the prices. Comment=15 cents. View=2 cents. Not all together he has racked up an estimated 400+ million view count combining all his videos. 400 million multiplied by 2 cents equals 8 million. Now he has approximately 1,000+ comments on each of his videos. Doing that multiplication marks his commission just over 15 million dollars. Yeah, its ridiculous.

    Actor
I've been told on numerous occasions I could make it as a great actor, and believe I could to. But even that isn't much confidence, seeing its mostly family and friends, not a Hollywood director or something of the sort. But I have faith I could execute this career with great pride, and pleasure. Right now at my standing point in life I'm not really ready to start taking acting classes, or something related. So really this is an optional job for me to think about when I start to progress my career.

    Comedian
I feel that I can make almost anyone laugh, using multiple attributes. Facial expression, voice pitch, integrity of said words, etc. I feel already makes me successful at scoring a laugh out of someone. Alot of times when I watch stand-up comedy I simultaneously spew jokes in my mind. I feel they can be even funnier from some of the comedians jokes. Though I know it is a hard career to persue, and a hell of alot of work. Today there are thousands of comedians all fighting for the limelight. I would have to work on numerous levels, not only on comedy, but advertisement, endorsements, etc.

    Stocks
In the upcoming years, it is innevitable that there will be huge changes aroudnt he world. A crucial one being the fuel department. With oil rapidly decreasing, replacement fuel substances are being created. I feel if I can grasp a new fuel company, and invest, I could make it big. But I too am aware of how hard the stock market is to predict, control, and undertake. Its always a gamble, and always defying you. This is lower on the list of possible careers, but regardless of my occupation I'm always going to have minor stocks, just to make some side cash, or lose side cash.

    Reality
Like stocks, this is low on my list also. I'm still quite un-educated on the real-estate market, but notice obviosu things. Foreclosure, prices increasing excessively, house-flipping. The former, house-flipping, was one that I feel could make me very fortunate. Though, it too is a gamble like stocks, and I don't know quite much on the matter. Furthermore, I feel in retro-spect the compared profit isn't of the magnitude it took to flip said house. All the required money being spent could evenly be more then the amount I've gained. Still, I'll be researching into this occupation, as my uncle is a very welathy real estate agent. I could possible set my foundation with him, then build my way up.

And that is all. Like I said, I want at least 2 jobs. Though, the less wealthy one being a side-job, say the weekends, or if I could possible render it online.

Army, I was on the supply side but I always worked around aviation. Overall, it was a great experience. But everyone has a different experience and there are many factors that go into this. It's infinitely helpful to have certain information before you make any major decisions. Like I said, if you're serious or just curious, please feel free to ask me anything.

Horribly kept secret #1: recruiters do not have your best interest in mind.

lol, that's at least partly true. Maybe I'm more ****ed up than I realize but at least I'm happy.

I am not 100% totally sure on what I want to pursue a career in either.

The only two jobs I have actually put thought into are Graphic Arts and Video Production. Maybe I might run across something else interesting the future that I may want to do.

I suggest you first go to college and check out what they have, unless you're already in college then you should be doing that already. Then just move on to what interests you the most.

For me I want to be an artist, not singing, but drawing. A graphic designer, web designer, architectural designer, concept artist, or something with drawing stuff. To be specific I want to work for a video game company like Bungie, Blizzard, Lionhead, or anything.

My second choice was something totally random that i thought about. I also was thinking about joining the army or navy and then after a few years settle down and become a police officer some where.

I like my first choice better though. Second choice is a little to dangerous for me.

I'm thinking of doing something in Game Design. I know that just about everyone rolled their eyes there. I've started searching on how hard it is to get in and I've found some tips on what to do.

So, I've decided on taking up something to do with Photonics as I already have some experiance in that area while doing modding and computer science on the side.

I like to think that eye-rolling is pretty minimal here, this is our futures we're talking about.

Im probably gonna major in Architecture, but minor in game designing, as a back up. People here at FH that are actually good to decent at Forging should use that to your advantage at life. im not the best at forging, but i love drwing, designing, creating, 3D modeling, etc... and that all is good for career feilds in Architecture, game designing of some sort and any other design or drawing feild. ya hear?
