This one is definitely one thing people sometimes forget when making a map. I think its pointless to even give us other maps if we just keep using foundry. We have the other maps for a reason.

As a forging community over all we have lost sight of true forging and gone into the same thing over and over. Now even if the person didnt want it that way i can find things that are in other maps and other things that are in other maps.

We are only now about the competive which means AR, BR, Sniper, etc. not a game that causes intense play like Clue, or Mario Tower, or Barrel Blasters, or others but are a matchmaking worthy map. We invented Clue, Mario Tower, Tremor Blast, etc. for competitive play that wasnt about the BR skills or the Sniper skills but the desire to win with a smile on our faces.

^^that was very off topic but it is kinda the same thing

Wow. You really know how to make an article. In fact that was one of the longest. I understand the point of how when we make the transfer to sandbox, we will get used to it. Then when someone is bored and goes back to foundry, its going to feel incredibly odd.

At first when Foundry came out, it took some getting used too. Some people went right to work when it came out though. In fact I met Blazen Nite through Foundry. He built a house on it the first day and I commented it and became friends. (Blazen Nite made the infamous Slit Pinball)

Now look at us. Everybody is tired of foundry and wants more variety. Sandbox will offer this. Nobody knows the capabilities of what it will offer. We will just have to wait and see wont we.

This is an impressive guide ANZ. Truth be told everybody has their own technique for planning a map before and during development. This should be a great resource for newer forgers that are having trouble planning their map though.

When i make a map I do many different drafts. I start out in the realm of 2-D with basic layouts of where I am going to place my structures. With this basic layout drawn i can now go in and detail the structures for my first concept of the finished product. Now I am ready to upgrade to 3-D. I will go into sketchup and get the size of structures as well as the added component of elevation so that I am sure that my MLG map flows well. Afterwards when I start making my map planning is not done. Often i will print out pictures of my map to search for inspiration and sit at my desk thinking.

But like I said everybody has different strategies. What i can recommend to new members however is that you.......

    1) Get a trusted forger to view your map after every major change.
    2) Think about your map when you are walking your dogs or even if you are trying to sleep.
    3) Look at good maps for inspiration. maps like amplified can be very inspiring when forging an MLG map.

these are my views on planning a map. And I give ANZ a cookie for another great article.

Okay, I understand it better now. When I add aesthetics, it contributes to the feel of the map. By the way, great guides.

    Another great post by AZN.
You see, these have inspired to make a Non-Foundry map. It's barely in the early stages, but I'm going through with it by utilizing it's natural layout.
And yes I'm planning it out, step by step as you said. Although I'm not an artist so I don't plan on paper. I just do it in my head all the time.
    Once again great discussion AZN.

I like this thread. Partly beacuse it's good, and partly because I like a long read. This thread shows good examples, and who would put that time to making everything perfect?
