    Facetious (pronounced fuh-see-shuhs) is a 2-base, Inverse symmetrical map. I decided to create this map for Fritzter’s “Forge like a Pro” contest, but I couldn’t quite finish it in time. I wanted to create a unique 2-base map – not just the common Onslaught clone – and I hope I succeeded in doing so.

    Facetious was originally inspired by Sanctuary after seeing a thread dedicated to how awesome Sanctuary was. I realised that not many people had re-made Sanctuary, or have been inspired by it so I decided to create one of my own. In the end it hasn’t really turned out too similar to it, but has a couple of simple, yet core features as Sanctuary such as it being Inverse symmetrical, 2 Snipers, good lines of sight, etc.

    Despite this only being my first MLG map, I have been interested in forging for a long time now and I know most features of forging such as interlocking, geomerging, etc. This map also uses a spawn system that was based off Ender’s thread of a good spawn system, and a fair bit of time has been invested in the spawns.

    Supported Gametypes:
    Slayer, Capture the Flag, Oddball, King of the Hill, Neutral Assault, FFA

    Weapons:
    4 Battle Rifles – 10 second respawn – 2 spare clips
    2 Carbines – 90 second respawn – 2 spare clips
    2 Sniper Rifles – 150 second respawn – 1 spare clip
    2 Maulers – 120 second respawn – 0 spare clips
    4 Frag Grenades – 30 second respawn
    4 Plasma Grenades – 30 second respawn
    1 Active Camo – 120 second respawn

    Updates:

    Version 2:
    -Added ramp to each sniper corner
    -Added ramp to courtyard structure
    -Moved and deleted spawn points
    -Altered spawn areas
    -Fixed and changed jump-ups not replaced by ramps
    -Changed respawn on frags to 30 seconds

    Version 2.1:
    -Budget is re-worked completely
    -Now impossible to jump on top of towers
    -Dumpster in front of base re-added
    -Doors to jump-up to carbine replaced with window panels

    Layout: 3.5/5 The layout seems great. You have a few jumps that could have been avoided by geomerging a wall into a double box or something along those lines. In my opinion, you can make game play a bit smoother by just making ramps instead of jumps. Otherwise good job.

    Aesthetics: 4/5 You really can’t put a lot of aesthetics into an MLG map and still call it MLG, but I think you did well. You put color markers in fairly good places, good enough that you can see them from a lot of angles. But I may suggest that on the bridges in the middle that you turn them around. The back side of bridges just look a bit better to me.

    Game play: 3.5/5 Though I haven’t played this map, I can tell you that game play would be great. Being on a higher level is obviously an advantage, but it isn’t overly powerful. Again, maybe use a few more ramps instead of jumps.

    Interlocking/Geomerging: 4/5 Nearly every object that I saw in the pictures was merged/geomerged with at least one other object, except for the wall. It’s not necessary to merge the wall it just looks a bit nicer.

    Post: 3/5 You posted everything right here, pictures work, description, download link, etc. But perhaps you could use some more color to enliven your post a bit more. It will catch the attention of the forgehubbers that are just looking at your post for the pictures.

    Overall: 3.5/5 The map is good, there’s no denying that. But is it feature material? I don’t believe so. Assuming this is your first post of a map, great job. I hope to see more come from you.

    Thanks for the feedback, it was quite quick. I know a lack of ramps is a problem with the map and using jumps instead, I will adress it in a version 2. Specifically, what parts would you suggest needing a ramp? And when when you say "everything is merged except for the wall" are you reffering to the back wall that blocks off the rest of the map? And yes, this is the first map I have posted.

    but anyways from the pics this map looks okay and it is not that original. i mean whenever i look at it it doesnt say I AM A MAP HEAR MY ROAR ! if you understand what i mean.

    Have you even downloaded the map? Forgehub encourages people to download and play the map before giving a review. The map is also quite unlike any other MLG map that I've seen, so could you at least elaborate how it is not being original? I'm not trying to flame or anything, I just want some good, concise feedback from the community before I make a second version.

    This map looks really nice With geomerging and interlocking and looks like it would play well too. Also Yo Mommas Foot do you like say the map roaring thing on everyones post? lol

    The geomerging and merging is very appealing, and I love the look of this map.

    Originality 4.5/5 It is very original and I can tell that it is very creative. It takes asthetics and looks and gameplay and combines them in a way that hasn't been done yet. For example some of the merges like the doble boxes and the single box making a neat turn, and perfectly geomerged with the ground. Another great merge is the stairs behind the carbine walkway. One leads from the double box, to a higher double box, and the other, which is right next to it, is leading from the ground to the second double box. That is one beautiful merge.
    Asthetics: As for Asthetics the whole map is appealing and nice looking. Not only the middle, but the sides provide ample cover in a way that makes your eyes very fond of it.
    Finally the gameplay looks great. It looks like it works well for every gametype, and also wil be alot of fun.
    The whole map and the ost deserve a 5/5. I really think you did a great job on this map!

    this is an exelent map i think it has good geomerging and more of an origanal mlg feel instead of some other maps. i can't wait to see more of your maps around the comuntiy.

    Jumps are fine, just don't use a bunch of them. You're map does include lots of ramps, but it also has jumps in a few places I would have used ramps.

    As for which jumps i would have changed to ramps, I probably would have used ramps on the courtyard with the geomerged double box/single box. I would have also made a ramp in the back of the sniper tower on the right instead of window panels.
    On the carbine walkway, instead of a horizontal door I probably would have put a double wall geomerged as a ramp.

    I did download this map last night, and I found that on a few of the jumps, you have to crouch at the top of your jump to reach (i.e. the double horizontal walls in pics 1 and 2). It would probably benefit the gameplay of your map if you lowered those a bit so they were more accessible.

    Just out of curiousity, I was wondering whether this map was moreso made for team gametypes or FFA?

    Thankyou, I will be definately be making more maps in the future. I have a few very vague ideas I might pursue but at the moment I will focus on Facetious and get a few updates soon.

    You know, after I saw your first comment I went into forge to experiment with a second version, and those first two ramps you suggested were exactly the first two things I did :). Unfortunately that means I am out of walls and am unable to put a ramp up to the carbine walkway, but I will keep trying to think of a way.

    The height of the walls in front of the bases were designed like that because in a very early version I had open boxes on each side merged into the ground so that you can walk across smoothly on them. When I changed that, I just decided to keep the walls at the same height. It probably won't be something I change because there is a window panel and dumpster right underneath (although I am thinking of removing the dumpster for budget), and being able to jump straight up is more of a tactical jump.

    The map was definately designed for team games rather than FFA because MLG doesn't run any official FFA tournaments. I just decided to be able to make it support FFA in case anyone wanted to try it.

    Looks like a good map DLed. The only thing is that for MLG frag grenades respawn every 30 sec.

    This looks really good. It has a nice layout, and is pretty aesthetically pleasing. Very nice job! I really like the look of it. But I won't download, mainly because I won't play it. I don't play MLG. Still, great map. 4/5.

    Downloading v2 as I'm typing this, I like the new additions to pics to the courtyard and sniper tower. The ramps will improve gameplay alot.

    Thanks for the comments guys. Unfortunately, I updated this map on the mlg website but I forgot to update it here. Anyways, Version 2.1 is up now. The main thing about this update is that I have some budget left for fixing up stuff. There aren't too many other changes apart from that which will affect gameplay from Version 2. So if anyone does have any ideas on what I can do from here, I will be able to do it now.

    I love the bases on this map Bob, I also like your sniper towers. This was a fun map to play on the other night, even though you absolutely destroyed me!

    This is sweet. You brought your A-game here, there is no doubt about it. This should be considered for feature, but I wouldnt be sure about it. Nice job anyway, I love how the layout is formed. This must`ve tooken you a while to make, I mean its beautiful. It has all the ingredients for a perfect MLG map. Interlocking was definately done with patience and pure concentration. I can`t even believe how well its put together. You definately need true skill to make such a map like this. Anyway, you`ve got my download and a 5 star rating, Great job!
