first, alternative mobile web browsers have been released on the app store. Second, a jailbreak for the iPod touch 2G is hinted as being very close to release, the iPhone dev team has hinted. Sources: appleinsider.com (for links to the web browsers look at the news article or just google it. The only free onemis the edge browser) Ipodtouchfans.com- 2nd news article on front page I would link, but I'm on my touch currently and that doesn't have copy and paste (hopefully also coming soon?) Edit: the bids by firefox and opera to add their mobile browsers to the app store were still denied. The 4 browsers released use the same webkit engine, so the speed would be relatively the same One browser named incognito automatically clears history upon closing The edge browser doesn't have the bar at the bottom and makes the screen for browsing larger. A third has tabbed browsing.
Awesome. Wait...I haven't jailbroken my iPod. So, I guess that second thing doesn't matter to me. The first thing is good news, though.
I wouldn't call them 'alternate browsers' so much as modified Safari apps. And they're not all that appealing. In fact, they're borderline useless. For the Edge Browser, in example, you have to type the URL in the settings app. That makes it pretty much useless.
I think that I read something about if it's jailbroken you can install it. But it's not the same thing.
No argument here. If these modified apps are let in...this should pave the way for Mozilla and Opera, and maybe at a later date Chrome (if we're lucky maybe IE [/sarcasm])...right? I'm dreaming. Oh well.
