I'm looking for a comprehensive list of characteristics that makes a map MLG worthy. If this has been answered I apologize but searching MLG brings up way too many results. Mature replies please. Thanks everyone.
Utterly smooth running surfaces At least one plane of symmetry Symmetrical weapon strength placement A sound spawn system Default MLG weapons and respawn times Technical jumps Areas of control that don't cross the line into camping spots BATTLE RIFLE!!!!11!! Lol, I couldn't resist. I think it's a good list though.
This is an important one that many people look over when they try to make MLG maps. You have to make sure there are some spots on the map that allow "Map Control". As in, you need to have spots, that if you control them, they will allow you a strong advantage. But, you have make sure that if the other team takes out one, they have a chance at taking ther other spots. A good example is if you've ever played on Blood Gulch competitevly. If one team controlled the Big Hill, they could make sure that the other team coming through the teleporter couldn't do much. But unless they controlled the overshield cave, they could be flanked as they are distracted by the people coming through the teleporter. Also, if they didn't control the side opposite of the Big Hill, the other team could easily drive hogs right through that side to the other base and get the flag. [/rant]
Another example would be the TS/Ball setup teams used to run last season on Lockout. A player holding Library, BR 1, BR 2 and BR 3. A very strong setup because of the angles it gave so that team shooting was possible whilst at the same time the setup was relatively difficult to take down short of a team rush BR 3 coming over top middle or controlling snipe as the rest moved from Blue 1 into BR 1, attempting to lock down open ramp and library window in the process. Forge a map where that level of complexity can occur and you have a winner. Especially if it's asymmetrical. I suppose I should retract my statement 'at least one plane of symmetry' then, but I think it still holds true in alot of maps MLG have played in the past so it can stay there for now.
You basically covered everything Be sure to place the goal markers on well thought out places. What I mean is that you for instance don't want one of the teams to have a shorter distance to travel from their startingspawns to their opponents Flag as opposed to the other team. Make sure not to overdo it with the weapons, while rocket launcher is a MLG certified weapon you probably don't want to place 3 of them on a single map. It's common sense but in some cases it can't be stressed enough. Peace // gorebound
Hey I'm interested in all this stuff.. can anyone put up a list of MLG 'certified' weapons? I might take a stab at building an MLG map.
I removed your duplicate thread in Gaming Discussion, as this is the more appropriate board, evidenced if you will by the replies coming here instead. I would add that excessive use of scenery should be avoided - i.e. Barrels, pallets and the like.
It usually boils down to Battle Rifles, Carbines and up to two power weapons chosen from Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Pistol, Mauler. Up to two powers chosen from custom/overshield/active camo. Grenades limited to up to four of plasma and frags. No equipment.
there can never be oversheild because of the invincibility glitch when u firstput it on. also u should alwaysthink to put sniper on before rockets because a sniper takes skill to handle.
Good point, I'd forgotten about that. The custom powerup usually replaces the overshield. Also, depending on the size and symmetry of the map the weapon allocations (and grenade ratios) may change (for example, the Pit has rockets and two sniper rifles). Edit: On the Mauler, it's probably because the Mauler is less dominant (shorter range, weaker shots) than the shotgun yet without a shotgun or sword it is still a very potent CQB weapon.
Does anyone have the complete list of weapons allowed, and which are classified as power weapons (Example: Is brute shot considered one?)
