Imagine your making a machinima about the ODST. Wouldn't it be awesome to have drop pods?

I don't have any idea how to do it yet. But what if someone could figure out how to make a drop pod and have us spawn in them. Thus taking us to the ground, which the hatch would pop out or we would have to melee them out.

Infection would be so much funner! People make infection maps based off of surviving marines and troopers. Why not make humans spawn in drop pods, and then when they land, drop pods containing weapons could be scattered around them( the ones from sandtraps forge list). That would add so much more to a map.

Some one honestly needs to figure this out. If someone already has, please tell me who figured it out and what it is. Keep this thread alive and sooner or later we should have an answer!

I am going to make a map implementing thi idea soon. It won't fall though you will spawn there. And it will recreate the feel of a crash.

I've thought of trying this many times but can't find a solid design.

I think pmp made this some time ago. you would wait for a fusion coil to spawn in and there would be a pallet holding up a crate or something. when the fusion coil spawns, it destroys the pallet and it lets you go. I'll make it today and I'll show you.

Wasn't truly a 'drop to the ground' type of thing, but I know someone made a container in Last Resort spawn to have it look like you just landed.

A friend of mine on Bungie is actually was already at work at this along with a game type. I haven't talk to him since I guess he never got around to finishing it.

A way to do it is to have the players spawn in the air with boxes arranged around them like a drop pod.
They would fall to the ground and land with the 'pod' which would bounce around in all directions when it hits the ground.

You should set the spawn settings to invincibility for the length of the fall and a few seconds after landing to prevent chance splatters by the pod equiptment.

But for machinima, you could have a forged interior of a pod where a character spawns inside,
have a different object fall from the sky in the distance for an outside shot, and film a forged exterior pod for the character to exit.
I've actually already made a machinima map of two pod interiors.

You could just create the crash really well and have people spawn in the open pods.

This could actually make for fun flood themed infection. It could be like the last level of campaign, when the flood fall from the sky in pods.

idea, map: last resort, flotaing box with a grav lift on one side. and a sender node in it and an reciever node on the bottom outside, you spawn grav light pushes you through portal, and you fall to earth at high grav lift speed... Edit: as only the one potal keeps it up you could shoot a rocket at it and offset it so you cant spawn...realiastic no? that way it would be like shoot a falling pod down.

Oh my god that is sooo weird! I was thinking about this the other day myself. My idea was to use wire spools, actually.

I would create a path for the wire spools to follow using floating fence walls arranged around the spools, aimed diagonally at the ground. The fence "guides" would end above the ground with just enough space so that the spools would retain their shape until they hit the ground and bust open, revealing our hero. It would probably take a long time to get it right though. Plus, you'd probably want to make multiple copies of it for multiple players. It's a fun concept though, I admit.
