Maps with random crap strewn all about it that are apparently "done". It seems like at least once a day, someone posts one, saying, "yeah man, I made this map, and it's pretty sweet ". And all I see in the pictures are fusion coils falling or a big ball of walls and dumpsters or pallets. All I can say is, if you don't have an idea for a map, or can't actually make a good map because you suck at forge or something, then don't make one. If you have ten minutes to throw something together, don't spend the half hour that it takes to join forge hub, upload pictures, and post it. I thought by now people would realize what a map actually is. By putting a bunch of crap on the map and then saying you were going for the "junkyard look" or something does NOT make it ok. What's even worse, is that then people COMMENT on the map saying it's GOOD or that THEY'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE. It's one of the most annoying things here on forgehub, and I think there should be a rule that prohibits posting maps with random objects strewn about. It's basically spam.
If that was the reason, that would mean people interested in forging would be drawn to our website, knowing that we are probably pretty big, considering the fact that we were on the front page. Also, more than likely, they would have actually LOOKED at our maps before posting their own so they should know our standards. Thirdly, it's been happening ever since I joined. After the second wave, people just started going downhill with the fishbowl maps and tornado explosion crap.
I agree with you completely, I am also tired of people posting threads without pictures, then forgers just running to the spot, posting a tutorial and getting a free post. I think you should just PM people and get an infraction if you say put pics in their thread. It gives the person that got there first a free post, and it makes you look like a noob if the person doesn't delete it. Anyway, back on the point, I think there should be a review system where a mod or a review team has to review your map before you post it, to make sure it isn't a stupid spam map or a stolen map. They could easily do this by having it so you couldn't make a new thread until you were approved to have posted at least one credible map. Then you could make as many new threads as you want.
Yeah... about that. The staff on forgehub don't have all the time in the world to review map posts, when at least 5 new maps are posted daily, usually at the lowest. They would have to hire a bunch of more staff members, something that wouldn't want to be done all of a sudden. The current system is fine as of now. You have 24 hours to properly edit and fix your post to the proper format before a moderator locks or deletes the thread for the inability to follow the proper post format. (I know that's not exact, but I like to be different. :v: <- Like this squirrel for example.)
Im tired of that too because of things like that i have stopped giving map reviews and almost stopped looking at maps altogether.
I lol at all of you because FH has been getting that kind of crap before you guys even came here. Before me, even. Yet here you all are, bitching about it.
I know what you mean. I saw that "random terrain generator" (in other words, "Random **** that falls from the sky and sometimes splatters you), and everyone was commenting saying "nice map very original!". Why?
Because it was an original idea. A map doesn't need to be interlocked and geomerged to perfection to make a good map. Gameplay is what matters in the end, not epic geomerges that look cool.
You know, couldn't we have it where mods would have to review map posts before they were posted? That's sounds like it would work quite well.
Everyone has to start somewhere. I'm thankful that Forge is 'challenging' enough that maps that are poorly planned stand out well. In a game like Far Cry, you can't always be certain that something was planned out, or if it was just randomly strewn together because it looked 'cool'.
He's got a point. At least on FH, you can easily tell when something has been built in under 10 minutes. Yeah, but you're not a mod who would have to do all that extra work, are you?
Suppose we had a "First Map" section...maybe that would keep better maps in the real sections from being shoved into a pile of inadaquate maps.
Yeah I think that a first map section could potentially work but then again who in their right mind who even go to that page considering that they hate seeing those maps once in a while. It would be rarely visited and then new members wouldn't even bother posting there. Maybe we could have an area where people post begginer maps to get help. That way anyone who visits can add constructive and helpful comments. They go into the section intentionally and won't be as prone to flame the map had it been in the other sections. I think the competitive section has the most well forged maps as well as mlg. Casual maps are flooded daily with crap and it can be irritating to post a map you have worked hard on and then see it buried. I am glad that forgehub has been able to cut back on spam and it really helped. Now we need to figure out a way to filter "spam" maps.
I had previously asked if this was possible. It was too hard at the time. Now with forgehub in bungie favoriots and all. Many noobs who have no knowledge of forge what so ever joined just to post their maps which they worked on for an entire day. Any way having maps reviewed is out of question. It would be cool if anybody with over 75 posts could approve maps, because they know when a post is up to standards or not. I like th idea about the first map section!!!!! Zachary!!!!
yeah, but maybe if a map had a really bad rating (one star) it would automatically be moved to a CRAP FOLDER area. idk
I like the idea of the first map and beginner map sections, but as you said, most people would not go into that section of the forums. For it to truly be effective, people would need some kind of an incentive to go there. Some reward for leaving helpful posts. Unfortunately, I don't think that's really possible. EDIT: I just thought of a reward! Maybe someone who visits that section and actually contributes consistently (as determined by the mods) should get some kind of bonus in TGIF. Maybe first choice preference, like you get invited to parties first, or your map gets to be played. Just a thought.
