Could PlayStation get the axe? Some Sony "sacred cows" scheduled at slaughterhouse By Mike Smith Drastic cost-cutting is in Sony's future, and the games division could be one of the business lines on the chopping block. That's the specter raised by a Times of London piece published Monday, which credits anonymous company sources with news that a massive restructuring program, beginning in a few weeks, will "abolish or fundamentally alter many of Sony's long-established business practices." That doesn't necessarily mean the end of the PlayStation, but it's hard to see Sony quitting any of its major markets, PlayStation or otherwise. Can you imagine shopping for a TV without checking out the Bravia line, or for a laptop without looking at Vaio? Although Sony's games division reported improving performance last year, it still lost over $400 million in the third quarter of 2008, and although the PS3 is the most expensive of the three major consoles, it's by far the costliest to produce. After a disappointing holiday season and the prospect of harder economic times on the horizon, could Sony's games division be contemplating a software-only future? _____________________________________________________________ Source OMFG no wai.... sucks for PS3 owners lol. Not that it is like any good games will be lost forever. Except for MGS4 and the Resistance series, but that's about it...
Good games that'll be lost: - Gran Turismo - MGS - Resistance - God of War (apparently) - Unchartered (no online, is crap) - Little Big Planet (PS3's best game? wow...) I got these from a PS3 website. They have got a few good exclusives, but God of War, Unchartered, MGS and Resistance are the games that I have played and that I either think are rubbish (Unchartered), or I just don't like (MGS). Little Big Planet is a laugh, but I don't see any kids ever playing it, mainly because most 9 year olds don't have a PS3 (because of the cost), and the level designer is too complicated for a kid. They have a short attention span, so they won't like it. Probably good for big kids, though ^^ Gran Turismo 5: There are plenty of other race games out there. We've got Forza and that's pretty damn good game. Resistance 2's 60 player online sounds good, but is probably laggy as ****, and I'm sure we'll see some 360 exclusives with big team battles like this sooner or later. If not, no big loss. We've got plenty of other good stuff. I don't think many of us will care if PS3 goes bye-bye.
Saying kids are the only ones who would play LBP is like saying the only people that play Halo 3 are 18+
That really sucks. No more ratchet and clank, no more killzone, no more god of war, no LBP. If the developers ha brains, they would begin making xbox 360 games.
PS3 is going out the door when that price tag was slapped on it. MGS is more movie than game because it has way to many ****ing cut scenes. Haven't play Uncharted so I'm going with zp and assuming its for white supremists. Gran Turismo is for more of the hard core fans because the prolouge that is already out is damn long and thats just the tip of the ice berge. Resistance 2 is about the only game the PS3 has going for it. Its fun, got a good story, some interesting guns. PS. 60 person online is actually really fun I played it a few times on my friend's PS3 and it isn't all that laggy surprisingly.
No ****, this is an Xbox 360 forum. People that hate on the Ps3 are so stupid. If those games came out on Xbox, you wouldn't be hating on them would you? Also, LBP is amazing, and Resistance doesn't have any lag when i play it.
If this does happen (and it's a big if) I could see Sony's software development division doing something similar to what Sega did. They would simply become a third party software developer creating games for multiple platforms. Imagine God of War, Resistance, and MGS on Xbox?? That would be win.
Certainly wouldn't effect me in a negative way. Hell, it would be a bonus! I don't own a PS3 and I don't intend to buy one either.
I think we should look into the future if the ps3 dies out. There's always going to be competition in buisness and the gaming industry is a buisness. We can try to hope and wish that if the ps3 dies microsoft would become the only console left (other than the wii, like that's competition), but that is an unrealistic future. In my opinion this could be the future of video gaming: the ps3 dies out and another system takes its place, learning from Playstation's mistakes and making a console that's cheap and more technologically advanced than the xbox 360. Who knows what could happen...
i gotta say one thing about sony i havent hopped on the sony ps3 bandwagon yet because i love my xbox , but the other day i played at my friends house his ps3 and he downloaded that new ps3 HOME, which is the coolest thing i have ever seen anywhere .....puts the xbox to shame with there new avatar update we had , i u havent heard of it check it out ps3 home.. its a living breathing virtual reality word u are free to walk around in amd meet other people , shhot pool , go dancing , buy houses , go to a mall and shop ... even go to the arcade .. or travel...its unbelieveable...........................
Sounds almost like the actual world... Why would I want to do things on my console that I could go and do with people in the actual world?
