Well, seeing as how geomerging has become a necessity for most people to like your map, I've decided to lauch a tutorial. While the origional Geomerging Forging 101 gave a tut, it was for very basic merging. The more recent merging tut "advanced geomerging" listed styles and only gave very vauge instructions. So the idea came to me to create a tutorial for those "harder" merges you see on '1337' maps. While a large piece of the FH community can geomerge like this, this tutorial is aimed towards the less experienced at geomerging, or people who have trouble creating these types of merges. Part II will go into more extreme back area merges.

    Bunker style merges
These merges are used to create bunkers, or stepups.
First off place a double box.

Second, place braces on one long side, and one short side as shown below. Then place the box on spawn at start: no
    [IMG]
Now place a wall (or two) and another box on top of the wall(s) and fit it into place with the nodes. Once the box has settled, delete the wall(s).

Spawn the box back, brace the rest of it, then pick up the bottom box. Wait two seconds, then Save/Quit. Repeat steps for ideal merge.

Now, when the game starts again, delete the top box, the braces. There is your finished product.

    Cover style back room merges
These merges are used to create cover in the back room
    Place the Sign.

    Place doors as shown.

Brace sides not covered by doors.

Pick up the sign, wait two seconds, then Save/Quit. Start the game again, and repeat for ideal merge. When merged to perfection, delete braces and doors.

    Door Replacement style merges
These merges are used to replace much needed doors with unused walls
First, place a wall or fence wall over the doorway
    [IMG]

Then place doors into the wall. Go around to the inside and pick up the wall. Wait two seconds, then Save/Quit. Repeat for ideal merge.

Start the game again, delete the doors, and admire your handy-work.

Thanks to BboyLeon for suggesting the creation of this thread.
No foundry items were harmed in the creation of this thread. =D
Part II will be released shortly

For the first geomerge, it is recommended that you put braces around all sides of the box, except for the top and bottom. This allows for a neater geomerge with less risk of it flying off.

That last one looks really inacurate. Just two stacked doors won't assure it to become straight when you merge it.

If you wait to seconds then save quit, and you only pick it up, and dont rotate or move it with your joysticks, the angle arrow doesnt move causing it to straighten itself

I guess so, but that's not really a guarantee that it'll stay that way.
Actually, I can see that the wall is crooked.

Ever so slightly becasue thats the way it was origionaly lined up, due to the roof corner in teh top left hand corner above the door.

Oh, might want to make that a bit more clear than.

And for the last geomerge, I've found that it's best to geomerge the wall in without saving and quitting, and moving it around until it is perfect, and then saving and quitting.

While geomerging using double boxes and such works, it is far easier and takes less time to use doors. I also find that that the method of geomerging into foundries floor doesn't work all the time, or it's just me. Other than that, fairly decent tutorial, but it isn't quite necessary. We already have Forging 101, and Bl00D F1R3's video tutorials.

Bl00Ds is too specific, and as stated above, teh forging 101's on geomerging are either for too simplistic merges, or are too vauge in giving instructions.
"While geomerging using double boxes and such works, it is far easier and takes less time to use doors."
doors arent as acurate, and they take multiple merges to get as low as that.

I have never geomerged the original way before, I have always used doors and teleporters. But every time I would geomerge the box would push the other one through the map and It would get lost. I have tried 4 billion times [/exageration]

Nice tuturial, I never thought of using walls to block of the doors like that

    omgwtfbbq? Sweeny is loyal!?
    aha...congratulations..
Anyways yeah the guide for this is pretty accurate. For the last one you way want to include teleporter nodes or boxes to secure the object next time.

I thought This tut was pretty good, and I couldnt agree more wit hmace that in forging 101 they give you only the simple merges. This is a good tut, for the people who would'nt know how to do those harder merges.
