Im working on a map, and while building, I thought of this question:
Would it be better to have a mix of close and long range combat, or just focus on one?

A good example of a map with a mix, I think, is Blackout. There are long lines of sight between places, but there are also many corridors and rooms.
A good example of a map that focuses on just one is Valhalla. Its very open, and the only place where you'll use short ranged weapons is in the base.

I prefer a mix, because I think it makes you adapt more to where you are, and use different weapons. I want to know what the FH community thinks.

I think you should do mixed as I would do on my maps. Variety is the spice of life?

If you map mixes both, more people will like it. But it really just depends on what you think you should do with your map. Maybe you should just make you're map, then updated it in a Version 2 If nobody likes the ranges, and sight lines.

Depends on the type of map your building it around. If you build a small map, it should be set up for Close Quarters Combat, but people would be more surprised if you allowed for long sight lines and ranged weapons on a small map. I'm doing something like that with my map I'm testing. There's a bunch of close range areas on the bottom floor, but when you go on top of the bases and the second floor, the sight lines are more open, allowing for ranged combat.

Personally I like a map where you have to be prepared for both. So that if your just holding long ranged weapons and have to move somewhere else, your pretty much screwed. Like you said Blackout is a good example, because the fasted, safest, way to move around is the tunnels. Then those tunnels lead to platforms above the rest of the map where close quarters weapons don't work that well.

Definitely a mix. One could focus more on one than the other though. On small, primarily close range, maps a sniper isn't that useful but someone can still use it if skilled. Or using Valhalla as an example in Team slayer games one rarely uses close range weapons with the occasional exception of the shotgun. However, smgs and spikers are still there in case someone wishes to use them.
