My friend got halo 2 for the pc and he wants to know if you still play online with a silver acount? So basically, does anyone know if you can still play online in Halo 2 PC with a silver acount instead of a gold acount? All he wants to do is just PC to PC.

I'm pretty sure that Silver and Gold accounts are strictly Xbox Live. Although I may be wrong, I haven't played Halo 2 PC.

That is what I was thinking as well. I may be wrong since I haven't played H2PC yet. I have Halo 1 for PC and it required no live.

Halo 1 PC did not need live but halo 2 pc uses a different version of live. It uses a Games For Windows Live service. It has both Gold and Silver just like Xbox Live. I've read details online about wether a silver acount will let us play online but those details are always so confusing.

with a silver account you CAN play online, but you have to chose from a list of games. With gold you can do quick match which searches for matches based on your trueskill level like in Halo 3 matchmaking. It was going to be that you would have to have gold to play online, but PC gamers were outraged that they would start having to pay for something they usually got for free and a lot of developers jumped ship on Microsoft so they changed it.

    i play H2PC a lot...so i think i can help you out.

If you have a Xbox LIVE account, you can recover it when you start up H2PC. If you do this, it will be gold if your XBL was gold. Unlike recovering to another Xbox console, your account can co-exist on both your Xbox and your PC. However, if you log in one, it'll sign out the other.

Silver accounts CAN play online, however they can't get online achievements, and cant chat. ~In-game voice chat is possible. In the Games For Windows guide, you can select mic and speaker for voice, and even set those to a 360 headset on a controller thats plugged into your PC via USB or Gaming Receiver, to make it like Xbox.

Any achievements and other alterations to your account will reflect on your Xbox when you next sign in.

Halo 2 PC does not have a TruSkill system; There are three search modes - Quick match, which puts you in a random match, Browse games, which is just a browser of all servers, and custom match, which is the same as browse but you can limit by parameters.

Halo 2 PC does not feature cross-platform gameplay, however other Games For Windows titles do. I believe Shadowrun is one. This feature requires Gold.

Games For Windows LIVE was initially launched with H2PC and Shadowrun, and was made Vista-only to promote sales. However, since then, the GFW LIVE platform is now available on XP, as can be seen with titles such as Gears of War and Viva Pinata. H2PC and Shadowrun are still Vista only, however.

If your Product Key for a GFW LIVE title is incorrect, the game WILL let you play. However, It will ask you to enter a valid product key before signing in to LIVE. In addition, it will state at the bottom of your screen that achievements require you to be connected in order to unlock, everytime an action would otherwise unlock an achievement. This is to prevent torrent-ers from buying one LIVE title and being able to freely get single-player achievements in the other games.

Well, theres my wall of post. Now back to the "Legend" achievement on H2PC....Im on "The Arbiter"
