I just thought it was necessary to give an overview of Forge, from my opinion. Let's start with Bungie's idea of Forge. It seems apparent that they thought the forge was a tool that allowed users to change small things; delete a barrel here and there, move the rocket launcher, etc. But then came Foundry. Foundry was a breakthrough for forgers, because it allowed them to build almost anything they wanted: The sky was the limit. Forgers' maps were spectacular, period. But now there is an issue. There are too many Foundry maps! It's pretty much all I see now. What happened to the other maps?

Now for people who try to be more creative and build a non Foundry map, have troubles. The other levels just don't give enough tools to build something great. This is where the gametype comes into play.

Foundry is meant to produce good maps, not so much the gametype. But I believe that the other places are not known for their maps, but for their gametypes. For example, the game Tremors is set on Valhalla. The map really is not that spectacular. All Tremors really is are crates strewn across the map, two choppers, and a flag. So then what makes it so fun? The answer is "the gametype". That is what makes it fun. The map is practically already made for you. This is almost exactly opposite for Foundry. (Remember there are some exceptions to my opinion, but for the most part, this is how it is.)

    Please share your opinions.

I have High Ground, The Pit, and Guardian maps that are drastically different than the originals. They were all made before foundry, and I still play them every custom night each week. Download them if you like small slayer matches. I know what you though, I haven't seen other maps besides foundry creations that are even interesting. I've never really play other gametypes though except for slayer when im in customs.

foundry was made for forge. Therefore, it's only common sense to expect it to have the most forged maps on it. You have the most freedom of design there as well. Yes gametype matters, but when you can make a map that fits all default gametypes, you know you have a winner

Like you said, before Foundry, our ability to edit maps was very limited. So to create new and unique content, many Forgers turned to the game settings. And it worked pretty well.

But now, with Foundry, our ability to create maps is incredible. We don't need to resort to modifying game settings in order to create new and unique content. We can now make adjustments to the map geometry and the game settings to create exactly the game dynamic that we want.

Why would we want to go back to the maps that offer nothing but limitations?

Like you said Foundry is just a level for maps not gametypes but I have seen some very good levels on Foundry with amazing Gametypes. I also think that the other maps are just as fun. I am currently working on a Rats Nest Map that will be up soon and after that I will start work on Standoff or Sandtrap

I completely agree with all of you in that Foundry does offer the most opportunities, but the point that I am trying to make is that the non Foundry maps are very fun with a good gametype.

To me the subject on Foundry, is somewhat like a double-edged sword.
There is a group of individuals who like just gametypes and (not to be rude) don't really care about the map. These guys love obeying the honor-rule system in maps.
(which was always the case with Halo 2 minigames like Tremors, Zombies, hide n Seek, etc.)
Then theres the group who totally digs Foundry because of the amount of freedom in it.

And no i don't think that Bungie thought that forge would just make players move rocket placements, delete a barrel here and there, etc. If you see the vidocs that they made, they expected great things to result from forge not just moving barrels here and there.
i like Foundry because it was somewhat of a god-send to Forgers and the reason why it's used so much is because we didn't think that we would actually get to make and manipulate the geometry in a forged map. and yes, gametypes do work very well in Foundry maps ( if made for a really good player/map ) .

well, on standoff people have used its wide fall barrier to great advantage in creating never before seen maps, and its not foundry

i agree that Foundry maps have been over posted. however, Foundry has almost limit less possibilities. people forge on foundries because it is the easiest map to bring to life your idea. foundry has more items to use than the other maps and the ground for the most part is flat.

however, there are many great maps on other levels. its not just the gametypes that make them great. it is there concept. convoy is one of my favorite maps. it is not on foundry if u dont know; its on ratsnest. the concept is great and the asthetics are good. this is why its a good map.

in other words; yes foundry is forged a lot, but there are endless possibilities on other maps. you just need imagination
