For one thing, this thing is something like 3-4 years old. It came with a 3-cell battery that would last for maybe an hour, but now it has been run down to about 15 minutes at full charge. The wifi fails to work completely due to a motherboard problem, and the thing won't even register. The audio is completely broken. Speakers don't work and the headphone jack seems to not work as well. The charger cable is broken, leaving individual wires in it exposed to the air. Leaving it on for more than 2 hours causes it to heat up like a boiling egg. It weighs more than 6 pounds. There is no camera, microphone, or any other extras that would be useful. The BIOS password glitched or something and has locked me out from the settings.

I want to throw this thing against a ****ing wall right now.

Worse, this thing cost $850 when my dad bought it. He wanted some stupid 'media center' laptop, or something.

    I'm looking at one laptop that's pretty cheap at $400. It's about 2.5 pounds, has 16GB SSD, WiFi (and 3G extendibility), 1.6 GHZ, 1GB RAM, two USB ports, a 10.2" screen, and its about 10.3" X 6.56" X 0.99".

That's why you just gotta rely on the good old 'normal' computers.

Windows XP or Ubuntu. Since I'll be installing Ubuntu anyways, I'm opting for that version. It's cheaper too.

you shoulkd install vista, it's really cool. despite what people say, it runs fine as long as you don't try ****ing around with the code and stuff. my mom has had a vista since it came out almost, and has had no problems.

Doesn't have the specs for Vista anyways.
It's called the HP Mini Note 1000.

I searched it on google and that laptop looks almost perfect for me. You helped me out alot as I thought I would have to spend about $700 for a computer that fit my needs.

If rep was still intact you would have received some right now.

You should look into getting a netbook which are the really small and cheap laptops. Acer has a ton of great models of netbooks and the most recent one from the Aspire series is great. I personally do not own one but I have used one. The only problem is that it does have a sort of mobile OS so you might have to worry a bit about that. But net books right now at least seem to be the way to go price wise and quality wise.

You're lucky. My Vista takes a long time to load everything, and it has updates every all the time. The updates don't do much for me besides restarting the computer 2 minutes after I log on. It's an HP computer.

I prefer Macs because the interface is better in my opinion.

I say you take a sledge hammer to the old laptop and post the destruction. Def. need some action shots and before, after shots. The new laptop is not bad for what 400 bucks. I bought my xps around 1900.

Look, I have to buy this laptop myself. I barely have $500, so I'm really hitting it close to the pavement if I buy this. Apple laptops are ****ing expensive. No way I can get one for myself.

As for Acers, I generally stay away from their laptops. They have good parts, but I've heard bad reviews about their construction quality.

Get an Inspiron. They are VERY good laptops.
I mean, not only do they look good, but they ARE good.
