are the games scratched? perhaps it is a problem with the laser or disc reader. if it is, you should call the hotline(1-800-4my-xbox) and tell them about it. say you just bought it, then if he tells you to go to where you bought it, tell him they just went out of business. worse thing that could happen is you have to send it to them, they fix it, send it back, and you have to pay $20. probably th eonly thing you can do

Don't get it fixed. If you have a warranty, use it. I had to exchange my Xbox 3 times before I got one that worked but you might as well do that or if you're willing to wait 1-4 weeks, then send an email to microsoft about your problem and send the Xbox in and they'll send you a brand new one.

When my xbox broke, it broke by having just a blck screen when you turn it on with white dots over the screen. It was a video card error and my 1 year warranty ran out the month before so I checked how much it was to repair online. It was $95 but since I was cheap, I lied and said I had red rings so I sent it in. But for dsome reason, they were updating the xbox website so my 1 year warranty refreshed and they sent it back fixed.
I'm not sure if they'll fix it with the diskdrive error though.

Any malfunction with the Xbox is consequently Microsofts fault, as long as you never opened the actual console. Just call up and ask for a box to be sent, package the xbox and send it out. Then wait for about a week or 2. I got mine in exactly 8 days..not that bad.

And no you don't have to pay a penny, seeing its microsofts fault. Just follow the steps the person on the hotline gives you, they're important.

Even if it's working... and I keep this as a great suggestion for everyone... ALWAYS GET THE EXTRA WARRANTY. It's generally about $50... but it's better than $100 amirite?

My stuff is generally in good condition, and I keep it that way, but I always get the extra warranty for safety. You never know what can happen.

you know, you should ALWAYS keep your xbox vertical. same with wii or ps3. it allows more air to circulate. look at it like this: since the xbox is longer than it is wide, obviously, when it is on its side, you're only getting ventilation from the 2 very small sides, and the other long side. if you have it standing up, then you're getting ventilation from both long sides, which is much more than before, plus a small side. it also clears up space in most circumstances like mine. it gives me space to put my games in a stack next to it, but a few inches away so it doesn't stop airflow. if it was horizontal, i wouldn't have as much space, and would put my games on top of the long side, thus seriously reducing the ventilation. just thought you might like to know that.

Buy a lens cleaning disc, it'll wipe the lens clean and should let your discs read. Worked for me anyways.

you obviously didn't read the rest of this thread. he said that hes had it for a while, and it was working. every single error is not microsofts fault. and if you say that ps3's never malfunction, read the wikipedia article about them. for every ps3 sony sells, sony loses about $250. that's why they are better in respect to hardware and such. the ps3's only real flaw is th elack of really good games. it has resistance and warhawks, but mostly all the other titles that are good for ps3 are also on xbox. the reason for that is that sony is a japanese company, which means they have all those shitty games like heavenly sword, and kingdom hearts and such.

If your on about, When you checked the site and it was still in warranty. Thats Microsoft's Fault, They had a "broken" database and they had to assume all lost warranty data wasn't over. The same happened to me and my cousin.

First off when did I even mention or care about the ps3? Thats irrelevant to what I said. Every single error is Microsoft's fault, hence the error. Why would the error be there? As long as he didn't open up the console, or change anything its Microsoft's fault.

yah, i kinda trailed off there. but you didn't read the other page of this thread. he did open it and the warranty had expired he said. every error is not their fault. if you have your xbox horizontal with games on top of it, then you're seriously restricting airflow. that would make it your fault. if you happen to have the nyko intercooler and get the rrod(like i did) then that's nykos fault(i was about to send it in, but then it started working again spontaneously so i said wtf and i just started playing again)
