Slanted Created by Shock Theta Slanted is a symmetrical, medium sized 1v1 and occasionally 3 man FFA map created for Tier 2 of Forge Hub's 1v1 Showdown. Supporting Slayer, Oddball and KOTH, the smallest parties can play highly competitive 1v1 matches or warm up with a casual 2/3/4 person FFA. A 10m radar range is recommended due to the size of the map. The layout of Slanted revolves around the main hall which features a smooth angled floor. A bubble shield rests here. On the ground floor a short corridor divided by a slightly raised shield door provides entry from the front and a spike grenade. All other routes from the main hall are on the upper floor. Directly opposite the aforementioned corridor is a raised ledge which enables BR fire from a slightly better position. Further back on this ledge is the rocket shaft which you must drop down to pick up the Rocket Launcher (containing only 2 rockets) before being automatically whisked back up into the hall. Beware though - using the shaft makes a noise and may cause a wise opponent to lie in wait knowing you have acquired a power weapon. Above the short corridor is a platform which is divided by window panels in its centre. Controlling this area can be key in some players' strategy, but it is also possibly the most vulnerable location, being open to attack from all sides. Either side of the window panels can be found a Battle Rifle and a Plasma Pistol. A long corridor lies along one whole side of the map on the ground floor, and is intersected in its middle by the short corridor, the platform and on the other side by a small trench containing the Flamethrower. It proves very risky to try and retrieve, but some of the more aggressive players may find it satisfying to their tastes. Rushing with it, however, will not get you very far. The long corridor has Battle Rifles at either end, and cuts sharply 90 degrees back towards the upper level and the hall where a Plasma Rifle on each side can be found. A small tip: they are fearsome if you are nimble and bold, and work well to disrupt a BR user on this map. Finally, open single boxes come out on both ends of the hall-side platform, and each contains a single Plasma Grenade. Items on map / Total placed / Respawn time Rocket Launcher / 1 / 90 Flame Thrower / 1 / 180 Battle Rifle / 3 / 30 Plasma Rifle / 2 / 30 Plasma Pistol / 1 / 60 Plasma Grenade / 2 / 45 Spike Grenade / 1 / 45 Bubble Shield / 1 / 90 Soccer Ball / ? / ? Soccer Balls!? That doesn't sound very competitive does it now... Well I decided to throw in a little extra something. There are Soccer Balls on Slanted and they are hidden. You won't notice anything out of the ordinary and the competitive play isn't affected. There are two challenges I'm laying down. The first challenge is to find all the Soccer Balls (and I'm not saying how many there are) without using the monitor mode. Run around the level and see if you can spot them - post a video if you want to prove your eyes are shaaaarp. The second challenge is extremely difficult. You must start up a custom game all on your lonesome using the FH 1v1 Showdown gametype. Then you have to find a way to release the final Soccer Ball into the map. You won't be able to see it until you release it, and there is a time limit after which releasing the ball is impossible. If you want to take this challenge, it's essential you post a video as the map obviously cannot be modified in any way. Good luck... you're going to need it I assure you. Map looks amazing Shock good job with it Wish I could be in this contest just so i could play the maps. :squirrel_sad:
Whew! Looks like another "Shock"-ingly good map! Yeah, I occasionally come through with terrible puns. Anyway, I downloaded and am starting to feel terrible for not signing up for the tourney :0(
Very nice indeed. Reminds me of damnation from H1, that was an epic map. I'm not sure the power weapons are the best choices, I would've perhaps gone with a mauler instead of the flamer, but i haven't played it yet so i may be misjudging them. I can destroy two lifts...
Mallet the rocket chute with the mancannon is very cool. A player drops down the chute and lands on a mancannon and is shot back out and can grab the rokect launcher. I have played it and it is just sick wicked awesome. I also screwed up the map during production a little bit (on accident), but all is well now.
Mallet, you are making quick progress with the challenge! I may reveal something that could break your spirit but that's for later I think... let the others catch up. Regarding the mauler I ran some versions with it and it seemed to dominate more than the flamethrower does. I anticipated a lukewarm response to its addition, but its placement (a death trap) and the slow speed + open areas = surprisingly alright choice. I suppose we'll see in the tournament though... Rusty you are a vandal but I love ya... and thanks for the praise man, it's really appreciated.
This map is really good. But you still didn't fix that wall in pics 5+6 :squirrel_sad:. I always stub my toe jumping up.
Thanks dude. I was too enamoured with the tiny ledge running along to the side to remove it, but I know it hurts the toes, lol... : (
Nice looking map and a great contrast to Pi limited grenades mean we have to be more careful with them lol and the battle rifles will be very useful this time around, top marks plus i like the way the rockets only have two shots means theydont chalk up too much and the flamethrower seems to be a bit situational. hehe if he sees you coming your toast. Cant wait to see who im up against in tier 2
Map looks pretty damn good! Very neat and clean. I understand there are some challenges put forth for this map.. What do you get for completing the challenges? There has to be some sort of incentive to complete a challenge!
amazing 1v1 map, great job Shock. oh yeh, and i too, have big balls http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=17974516
LOL wow I'm so dumb, my method is way longer. Why did I go to the flamer..? gosh Ah well, unlucky lightsout good job.
Shock: I just found the coolest thing to do on this map that I bet you don't even know about. Details to follow.
Wow, sounds ace furious, let us know asap! Mallet and Light, my method is very similar to Lights in the beginning but I think slightly faster, and my ending is like yours Mallet. It won't let me upload my film for some reason... I'll keep trying.
I just dled this and checked it out with my friend. I really like it. At first I didnt knowhow the flamethrower would be on it but it seems that it will do nothing. Mostly because its more of an open map and with the flamethrower you walk too slow. Overall great map!
Ok Shock, here it is. If you throw a plasma grenade down the rocket hole, it will be pushed up against the box by the mancannon. It will roll up the box, and not explode. And then when it reaches a certain height, it will just hover there continually rolling. Sorry about the quality of that last one. Bungie.net is being goofy. They actually slowly move from right to left, leading me to believe that your mancannon placement is not straight. Very sloppy, Shock. Very sloppy.
