CALGARY, Alberta - A massive ball of fire that lit up the skies over two Western Canadian provinces on Thursday evening was likely among the biggest meteor events to be witnessed in Canada this year, one expert said. The fireball, which streaked through the darkening skies over Alberta and Saskatchewan at about 5:30 p.m. Calgary time, likely weighed between 1 and 10 tons and shone brightly enough to be seen over an area 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. "It was somewhere between the size of a chair to the size of a desk," said Alan Hildebrand, a planetary scientist at the University of Calgary and a coordinator of a fireball reporting service. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXzzakHTXnQ
I agree, it would be way cooler if something exploded. But it's pretty tight, looks like part of some creepy movie or something.
I've always wanted to see a meteor =(. That was ****ing awesome though, just like in the movies. I thought the whoe light-up-sky thing was a fake, but I was wrong. But what would have been cooler is that when it landed you see a tiny explosion like in a movie, but nonetheless epic.
"I want the impact site blocked off, get these civilians out of here." "Sorry Detective, but this is officially my case now." *Pulls out badge* "Alan Hildebrand, Fireball Reporting Service Coordinator." "Dammit Hildebrand, you're not taking another case away from me!" "How about you go off and find some crimes somewhere, the adults have real work to do."
Holy sh*t! That just lit up and made the sky really bright. That must have been Epic to witness. :O That's really cool though, I'd love to have seen that in real life.
Dangerous it would've have been for those in the area but what an amazing site that must have been for those who witnessed it.
Wow I dont think i have ever seen a meteor come down like that, nice find there. but ya it would have been cool to see an explosion as long as it doesnt do to much damage or hurt someone
That's right because Canada's the greatest country in the world and no meteor is gonna affect it. Canada FTW!
Did anyone get hurt? I didn't see this on. But then again, I haven't watched the news that much this week.
Dam I thought there was going to be a big ass explosion, but Waylander was right it woulden't be cool if someone died because of it.
