You can get an overkill easily with this sword technique. You have to press the B button and then RB.Then you will probaly win every sword duel. The other way is like on Grifball, you lunge at the bomb carrier and hold RB down at the same time and when you kill him you'll pick up the bomb instantly.
He means that you should use your melee button first, followed by a lunge. The reason that the confusion happened was because he failed to mention that he is using a different button layout, and that his melee button is RB instead of B. Honestly, I find just using just your melee button to be the most effective way to win a sword battle, but I guess different people have different styles.
I think many people worked out sword techniques quite a long time ago, seeing as the game has been out for more than a year. And this isn't the best method anyway. What if the other person melees twice and you melee once and then lunge? You have 2 blocks and the other player has a chance to melee a third time or lunge. Either way, you're still lunging and he kills you.
Too bad the other person might just press B continuously and once you've lunged, you can't block their next melee. I could see this being used when the other person has overshields and a different weapon. But that's it really.
Most of the time the most common sword battle will be to lunges and both followed up with meles and the first person to get the other person with the melee wins, usually the person who has the better conection or dodges the enemy's meleee
Mash the melee button, and jump-spin over their head because it is safe to assume they're not using bumper jumper and can't spin and melee to compensate.
