So I was looking to get a capture card, but the problem is that most of the good one's are for PC only. so i was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for a mac. my specifications are needs to work with mac, would be great if it worked with PC too but not necessary, decent quality video, 100-200 dollar range, and i would like it to be compatible with the program final cut pro. thanks for your help. Also, I've already decided not to get the Pinnacle for Mac. I'm looking at the Pyro A/V link, and I wanted to know your opinions. -Teaco27
Wait, Capture cards can only be used with PCs? I doubt that fully. Get a Dazzle* Video Creator (best Capture card you should ever need). It comes with Pinnacle Studio 12. Some really great machinimas have been made on a Mac (ex. Phil). They captured, and then edited with a couple programs, but I believe the one they used the most was iMovie. macs can use capture cards, and iMovie I believe can be substituted in for the Pinnacle if you don't want to use it - But I strongly recomend that you use both. ~Homer
Once again, Get a Dazzle* Video Creator. I use Vista, and it works fine. There isn't a reason for newer ones to not work. You may have to install a driver, but for what cost?
Bluejay, you misunderstood Teaco. Capture cards can be used with Macs, as long as you have the drivers for them. Unfortunately, some CCs don't supply drivers for Macs. The problem isn't that Macs can't use CCs, its that because Windows based PCs are the most common on the market, some companies will only supply drivers for Windows. Teaco, do you have any preferences for intenal or external capture cards? Internal ones can be a bit more expensive. However, you can get higher qulaity internal ones. External ones are probably best if you're not doing anything too serious. They'll just be USB (usually) and you can get pretty good quality videos with them, no HD though (I don't think so anyway, considering you only have a USB for a lot of data). Also, where are you? In Europe the 360 games are Pal 60, not all capture cards support that. If you're in USA then you should be OK. I don't think there are many CC which will not support NTSC. Using Final Cut Pro should not be a problem. The capture card will either allow you to use it as a video device (like a webcam) or it'll have its own software bundled with it, (like Dazzle CCs). As for specific cards, theres a Capture Card Database over on High Impact Halo. I'll get a link soon.
I didn't say Capture Cards couldn't be used with Macs. I basically restated something that Teaco said, and after that I said "I fully Doubt that." If you do alot of research, most big brands will most likely have a mac version of their capture cards - Just look at Th Kn1ght's post.
I would like and external card. I am in the US, and i have aready ruled out Dazzle for Mac due to bad quality. Thanks for your Help -Teaco
Dazzle is the most well known and best quality for its price. Where have you seen the quality of the capture card?
DigitalPh33r uses a Dazzle RoosterTeeth used a Dazzle I use a Dazzle Almost everyone with great machinimas uses Dazzle There isn't difference of Quality between two different Operating Systems, because it is the same Capture device.
