Ok... obviously Foundry is amazing. I'm sure we all look forward to seeing how map creation evovles on Foundry. With the many amazing options Foundry offers, we are going to see an abundance of awesome maps coming out over the next couple months. However, I'm wondering, what is the next step for Forge maps? Personally, I kind of have some issues with how Foundry is sorta bland looking. And the ceiling limit is also slightly annoying. I'd love to see another Forge based map released in a new map pack, that offers the same "legos" type of Forge enviroment as Foundry does, but in a different location. Like, OUTDOORS!! Wouldn't it be even more amazing if we had the possibilities of Foundry in an outdoor enviroment? My mind reels with the even more unlimited options this would offer. Discuss any other ideas you might have for a new Foundry-esque map. Maybe Bungie will take note.
totally agreed. I would love to *make* a lvl outside from scratch. From the trees to the building I want to be the one designing it. sooner or later bungie said that there will be outside foundries. they also said that in the next map pack there is a 65% chance of another foundry type map. and another 15% chance of it being outside.
IMO, I think having it in a forested type of area, or nature type area with trees or whatever would be sorta cool, i guess. But my idea is more along the lines of: having it like on the runway of a huge UNSC air force base or something. That way you could still have the flat ground that makes foundry so great to build easily on and also have the cool scenery around you and be able to build stuff up into the sky. Hopefully they would make the invis barriers of the sky REALLY high up so we could just go nuts with vertical style levels. Maybe have the airforce base located in the mountainous areas or something so that we still have a cool background to look at...
So you honestly think theres a better chance of them letting you build the entire geometry of the level, including rocks, trees, ground levels, etc? I think you shouldnt get your hopes up buddy. (not trying to turn this into an arguement)
not ground lvl. think of it like this. you have an empty area with the ground lvls build in, and the rock walls set but you put the trees and more rocks down. along with structures so you can have a structure go around a tree or have the building build into the rocks. more or less, they give you a empty sidewinder map with no trees or buildings, and you get to give the map life
;D now lets make a poll on bungie.net and see what other people think! WE will make bungie give us what we want !!!!!!!!!!
This idea is made of win, the only fault I have with foundry is it's lack of meaningful scenery ( not boxes walls etc). An outdoor level where you can manipulation the entire place would be awesome.
;D ;D it would be awesome. I have sooo many maps in my head that I can't do because foundry is inside!!!
I agree that it would be awesome, but I am just trying to think from a developement stand point that that is like 3 steps ahead of what Foundry is at right now. Thats why realistically i am not so sure that Bungie would do that. But we'll see. I hope they prove me wrong!
This may just be me, but I think Halo 3: PC is going to have a completely designable level. I mean everything. Scenery, hills ,wall paper, little flying birds (like on Last Resort).
The ceiling is the most dissapointing thing about Foundry. Why couldn't they just put it in an open field?
I think that smaller maps can have a larger budget since they don't take up as much memory for the map part itself. An outdoor Forge map that was bigger would be awesome. Here would be the ultimate though. Bungie release a map maker program for Halo 3. Like in H2V where you could make maps on 3DS max (I think that is the name) then load up a program to place all the weapons and stuff. The problem with this is that you would have to download a whole new map, and I don't think the B.net servers are big enough to store new maps. I mean you would have to host the maps. Here would be a scaled down version. A map contest that people could submit to Bungie and a couple would be a download (maybe even a free download). That would be cool. If we could make are own maps though then that would atract a lot of PC gamers. Infact I wish Halo 3 was avaliable on the computer, so we could play with non-360 owners and I have a wirless controller adapter on my PC, and maybe the PC version of H3 would have a map creator. Just a thought.
