MLG UPROAR - 2 Base Symmetrical Map

    Hey Forgehub Forums! I am pleased to say that I have completed my first Halo 3 MLG map. Now, seeing as it is my first, I know I have much to improve on and learn. I have worked very hard on this map for quite some time, and I really recommend you at least download it and check it out. I began forging when I discovered some of the popular maps out there, like Lockdown, Zenith, Onslaught, and Amplified. I have always had a strong interest in computer modeling and drafting, so creating this map was a lot of fun and I am sure to make more. I tried my best to make a map that was well-balanced, neat, and fun.

    I began my concept using the foundry designer tool, and also made paper drawings for more detail. Once I had a rough sketch in mind, I set off to create my masterpiece. I worked hard through this whole map, making small adjustments and at one point deleting a whole section of the map because of bad geolocks. I am somewhat a perfectionist, so i had to make sure everything looked and played just right. There are a few rough spots, but I tried my best on my first map attempt.

    Here are some facts on the map:

    I used the full budget, and all 100 spawns.
    I spent 80+ hours on the whole map, and around 20 to block off the not used sections of Foundry.
    This map took over 760 new custom forge games, through all the Saves & Quits.
    40 Items are geo-locked into the Foundry Map itself.
    148 Different items are interlocked with another item.
    I drew from inspiration of other maps, like the diagonal geolocked wall featured in the bases of Zenith.
    I began the map on July 1, 2008 and completed it on October 15, 2008, a total of 107 days of work.
    It was created by just myself, and it was shown only to few of my close friends before completion.
    It features 4 BRs, 2 Carbines, 2 Plasma grenades, 4 Frag grenades, and 1 Mauler.

    I will openly accept any constructive critisizm, and I would ask you all to go easy on me seeing as it's my first attempt at map-making. :] I have not run any test games on it, but if you do play it I would love to know your feedback. I also haven't made a Capture the Flag or Oddball version of it, so if you feel it is worth it to make them let me know.

    Here we have the front corner of the map. Notice the geo-locked fence walls that were one of the most frustrating parts of the map. This section took around 15 hours.

    This is the "B" base of the map. The other base i had to completely start over on because of poorly geo-locked boxes.

    simply amazing...that's all i have to say...this has got to be one of the best maps ever made in the halo universe!!! it is so freakin awesome it should be featured on FH!!! anyways, keep up the GREAT FORGING!!!!!!!!!! =]

    This is seriously impressive for your first attempt at map making. I like the idea of how you added the time completion in your post. I will definately play this with my friends tomarrow and see what they think about it. Hopefully if I remember, I will try to come back and give some more info on what I think about it and what my friends had thought about "MLG UPROAR." The map is incredible.

    This does look very precise and unique. finally, a well-forged MLG map without parts taken from Amp or Onslaught. However, you must change your post title to just your map, 'MLG Uproar.'

    Very very impressive. If this is seriosly your first map then I wouldn't be suprised to see you become a premium from getting this map featured and other maps you make. I liked the neatness and the interlocking and the geolocking are perfect too. You are truely a serious forger and when I say serious I mean SERIOUS. Wow this took you forever to make. I love it! I have nothing bad to say about it. It is simply beautiful. 5/5

    Thanks everyone for your positive replies. You guys seem to be going a little easier on me then at the MLGpro forums, and I seriously appriciate it. This map did take a while to complete, mainly because once 10th grade started I found myself very busy with school work, sports, and all that stuff. Aside from that I am a very slow forger though. I would spend many hours on one double box just to get it Geolocked perfectly. And I am very proud to say that this map is 100% mine, I did not delete boxes from another map and start from their work. Like I said I do plan on making more maps, hopefully much better than this one. This one was just an experiment, I would say.

    I fixed the title so "MLG Uproar" isn't in all caps. Thanks for pointing that out.

    this map looks really good but i have noticed that ur barrier side
    looks almost the same as Lockdown. Like the barrier is because
    Lockdown is blocked off exactly the same. but if its not prove me
    wrong and if im right then give the person that made the barrier
    credit

    Pretty serious accusation LuckyShot, who's LockDown are you talking about?. Anyway, love the map, wonderful interloxs, and geomerging, I could not even begin to understand how you geomerged those fence walls, if you did, (by the way, can someone put up a tutorial of advanced geomerging like that). So overall great map 5/5

    Similar but not the same

    I checked it out and pulled up some pics to show you. I am assuming you are talking about Lockdown by NeXn and KRONIC SMOKE.

    Here we have the right corner of Lockdown, which uses vertical fence boxes, a bridge, some fence walls, and a regular wall.

    Here is the left corner of Lockdown, which uses vertical fence boxes, fence walls, and double walls to block off foundry.

    On my map I use just fence walls and fence boxes, and the fence walls are geolocked vertically into the foundry map.

    I see what you mean, the shape by which we blocked off foundry is similar, but we used different items and methods to block them off. I hope this clears everything up for you.

    Geolocking those fence walls was very difficult and tedious, I had to continually do the save and quit method to get the fence wall, doors, and teleporters floating around the geolocked fence wall. It took a lot of time, but the finished product looks a lot neater than if I didn't geolock.

    well i typed up a pretty long comment for your map, and once i pressed "post quick reply" the internet sorce couldnt be found and i couldnt get on forgehub for about 10 mins. so i looked back at my comments and your thread and my comment didnt go through, sorry. well anyways, i htink it is a very interesting map, u took alot of work into it and it looks like you did, very clean and unique...maybe not the way that part of the map is cut off like "Lockdown", like LukyShot said, but its still different. amazing job on hte map, hope it gets more views and DLs.

    This map is a beautiful first try and it played great.
    But I could not get past all that Z-fighting! It was just too much for me.
    If you cleaned all that up, I would not be surprised to see this featured.

    I less than 3'd ur interlocked a-b signs and i see the sick geomerge with the fence walls intro the walls.
    The idea of the walkways on the sides having higher ground is good and relatively creative.

    I don't understand your first sentence. The one about 3'd the interlocked a-b signs. The walkways thing was something I incorperated with the map at the beginning of the design process. I almost think I couldn't have designed a better map without them. Thank you for your reply.

    What exactly do you mean by Z-Fighting? Are you talking about the cornerwalls placed at angles to each others so they look like "Z"s? I will gladly clean it up when I figure out what you are talking about. I appriciate all the positive feedback, you guys are great. I am going to redo the spawn system also to just clean it up.

    I apologize if I seem like I don't know anything, I read those last two replies by you guys and was kinda confused.

    This map will get you tons of DL's (eventually, expect it in the couple hundreds and up). You've clearly spent a huge amount of time on this. Let me just comment on your forging technique. From what I can see, your geomerging looks fantastic. You definitely got that down, and I see that you know how to do it effectively to block off the map (using Save-and-quit, I presume). Your interlocking is also very clean. I love the overall layout, and even though I typically tend to find symmetrical maps a bit boring, this doesn't look it at all. This is an offset, but I'm amazed that you used all 100 spawn points. Wow! lol. I guess spawning shouldn't be a problem... =0
    Overall, great job. Hope to see more of you in the future.
    BTW, the post above... less than 3'd means that he loves it (<3, or heart. lol)

    Haha hundreds of downloads? At this rate it seems I will maybe get 150...but thanks for the support. I like how you noticed the neatness, I believe I know how to make maps and design maps, but I just don't know how to make them playable, like utilizing line of sight, various levels, etc. I think what I need is someone who knows a lot about making good maps, and then I could help along the design process and then make it in H3. I don't expect it to be a big hit seeing as its my first, but you seem to have more faith in it than I do :]. I was hit pretty hard about the spawns at the MLGpro forums, apparently 100 spawns is a bad thing.

    Haha, I feel a little more like an idiot after not knowing what the 3'd was suppost to mean. Your reply has probably been the most positive one I have recieved, and for that I thank you.
