New Members.. High rep?

I believe rep is a great think. As a member said back in the time of rep when TDF disabled, it and brought it back, one member had very good points.

He said that rep is the only moral weight this forum has. Without it members would be confused on how to look at some person without seeing them.

But now rep is yes, out of hand.First off I never think TDF should have made it so every 25 rep you get 1 more rep weight. That basically just causes a snowball effect and in a month or so a new member will have at least 5 bars.

Just take me for example. I just returned to forge hub in September. Now a month later I'm on the top 20 of rep and have over 2000. Not saying I rep *****, just its out of control.

I think rep should go back to the way it was. Every 50 rep=1 rep weight. But the monitor of rep should be more encased. I know the staff is trying as hard as they can to stop it, but people are still getting away with it. We would need to set up a fool-proof system.

But than that also leads me to the question: When is + rep, and - rep necessary? Well in my eyes + rep should be given to someone who went out of their way,made you laugh, or something that I feel deserves it. Though everyone has their own opinion and sometimes that can get in the way. Neg rep should be given in cases where a user insulted someone or did something that basically you see on a negative side.

I say keep rep, just fix it.

Perhaps they should simply increase the rep power to 100. So for every 100 points you give one rep. This would stop the inflation and decrease the amount of rep going around.

This should be followed by a quick search on all people with more then two bars of positive rep for spam rep and remove that rep from the people.

Then we should reset MonkeyDeaths rep to 0

 

I think every 50 rep is reasonable rate to go by.

100 would take forever for anyone to get up to about 70.Thats 70 people repping you right there, without any neg reps.

 

I think there are three things you could do
1. Put a rep cap on posts, someone can only recieve a certain amount of rep per post
2. Publically show what rep is recieved on each post. People would be hesitant to rep ***** if everyone could see and people would be less likely to give rep for something if they can see 5 people have already given it.
3. Disable rep for people caught rep whoring

 

This would only make a difference to those that post once a month. I myself have never recieved 2 reps for 1 post. Can't say the same for others though...

But this may be a bit humiliating to those that recieve negrep. The fact that they have the bars is enough punishment for a bad post.

I think this is already being done.

 

lol I can't say the same thing... I have gotten a dozen or so new rep since the update, all positive... its funny because I used to not get alot, but it seems without it meaning anything, people like handing it out more...

 

erm yeah....still on three bars....

 

I've only got 2 blocks, and that was when I first joined.

It's a shame rep no longer does anything.
