A little over a month ago, I began my quest to enter the graphic design industry. Im attending a top technical school in San Diego, and learning a lot about the industry, and beginning to work on my skills using various Creative Suite programs. Im very new to design, and am still learning (and have a long way to go), so be easy on me. We don't do fancy, shiny signatures, but rather real life scenario type work. Here is the some of my first stuff that I just felt like sharing, because I feel like Im finally starting to accomplish something. Be gentle, like I said, Im a n00b. A couple really simple bookmarks for my first project using Illustrator/photoshop A couple event flyers using Illustrator (me loves the pen tool) For my Intro to Graphic Design class, my 3 projects flowed together. First, I developed a new logo for the company FogDog Sports using Illustrator. I sketched tons of thumbnails to get the concept, then scanned my final concept, then took the pen tool to it, cleaned it up real nice, and added the text. From there, developed some stationary (business card, envelope, letterhead) keeping uniform to the concept. Again, with Illustrator. Finally, took it to the final step and used InDesign (an amazing program), Photoshop, Illustrator to create a 4 page spread newsletter (front, mid, mid, back). The text is just dummy filler text, som ecrazy greek nonsense, but that wasnt the point of it. Learned about electronic layout, duotones, etc. Its good to finally find something that interests me, and Ive learned a lot over this first month.. and really lookin forward to continuing to improve and learn. comment all you like, but don't be a ****, I know I suck right now lol
This is the field i'm going into. Not many people even realize that adobe illustrator is wayyy more practical than photoshop. Illustrator > Photoshop for sure. I'm an illustrator pro, using the CS package together can create some amazing stuff. The second omnivore's dilemma (brochure is it?) is so warm and inviting looking. The fogdog business package is sleek and simple, i like it. The newsletter takes the cake, i love how you gave it such an old school look and feel, it's like modern sports meets the 1950s. Great color choices as well for the whole fogdog package. i'd rather not talk about the flogging molly flyer... lol. When you start to get really good, you'll make gold if this is just starting out.
Appreciate it Chuck. The Omnivore's dilemma pieces are bookmarks. I was really pleased with the logo.. its simple, memorable, and works well in various sizes and mediums (color, grayscale, black and white) Appreciate the comments, sir.
The two bookmarks I would use for sure, although, if possible, create a flame in the black one on the candle (or what I think is a candle). It would add light for more attractiveness. The second bookmark is perfect. Close to professional even. The fliers are good. The left one needs some type of eye catching border and the one on the right was creative by using the whole flag idea, I like that. The newspaper looks great. The vintage color effects worked nicely if that's what you tried. I like the looks of that newspaper a lot. On a side note, I'll be going to Western Michigan for graphic arts/advertising sometime next year. I really want to go into gaming graphics and if that's not possible, advertising. I'm going to get my Masters if possible, that's going to take a while, but I'll be learning something that I've always wanted to do.
Why did you remove that business card one? Ö Because your name was on them? Was that your name eh? ;] They all look pretty darn good. Very professional looking. I have been considering Graphics Design, for university next year. Although I may do a gap year instead. Considering you said you're still learning I think you have a lot of potential. Keep doing what you're doing.
