Go For Broke canhuck's (coroniam) debut at FH NOTE: I am currently employing the advice given thus far to create a V2. Look out for "Thieves Highway" Coming soon! Download Here So my buddy mentioned something about a cops and robber's map, and that really got me thinking. The result of all that brain power is my debut here at FH. This is a Foundry map variant designed for the One Flag game variant. Running with the theme of a cops and robber's scenario I have created a city complete with a prison and a bank, not to mention a hideout for the thieves. Beyond that, it's easier for me to explain the map with a little visual assisstance... This here is what I call the Thieves' Highway or as it is more commonly known, the rooftops. Here's the view from the streets. The streets are a series of intersections that a both wide enough for a shooting match, as well as narrow enough to reward those who know how to throw a grenade well. The bank from the outside... And inside of it. The roadblocks are designed in a way to mimic the lines we all stand in at the real bank. I also fashioned bullet proof teller windows for those who like their financial institution with a little more peace of mind. Should you successfully obtain the loot (the flag), this is your destination, The Thieves Hideout. Should you fail, this is where you end up, jail. But since you're such a criminal mastermind, it shouldn't be to hard for you to escape Now that you're out of the cell, you still have to navigate your way out of the maze like prison... but don't worry, those cops could never outsmart you. its a preety good set up but there is no interlocking or geo merg 3/5 p.s make a v2 with interlocking and it will look great.
The set up is good but sad to say try to interlock or geo merg i can improve maps by a lot 3/4 maily for layou XD
Dude dont worry what these fos be saying about Interlocking and Geo Merging. Its a great map. The layout and gameplay setup is really well thought out. Just because it doesn't have interlocking and geomerging, that doesn't mean it can't be a great map. Just keep doing your thing. Interlocking and geomerging help make your map look better and players can move around more smoothly without bumps in the playing surface. It can also make construction less awkward as you can fit objects where no interlocking g or geomerging wouldn't allow. A pretty good map post layout. The pictures were well annotated and stuff. Good job dude. For your next maps you should try out interlocking and maybe some geomerging. They are both very very helpfull techniques. They seem daunting at first, but are well worth it. All the best for future maps. Keep it up.
Grrr... maps don't need interlocking if they play well... ie. the lazy map makers contest maps, you guys should get off his back about the interlocking, I'm sure it plays well anyway.
I agree I think for the frist post it is pretty good. I recommend that you turn the bridges over, it looks a lot more professional. Maybe you can make a v2 that may play just a little better. p.s welcome to forge hub!
Nice idea, and a good first post. I like the way you have to get out of a maze when you die and you go to prison. One thing though, you don't have many pictures of the building areas, is there anything special in that area, or is it just the buildings? All in all, a good map 4/5 looks like gameplay would run pretty well on this map.
its a very good map even without geo merging or interlocking u dont need them to make a good map they are useful however so if you ever learn to use them i recommend you do but this map is very good
This is incredibly well made, especially for a first map. Your layout is very interesting, and the map has a cool towering feel. It really reminds me of gridlocked... Great job but you really should add some interlocking and geomerging. It would really improve this map, check out the forging 101 tutorial, or look it up on youtube. Good luck, I would like to see a V2!
i think that i saw some crooked items in the pics, but as long as it doesn't affect gameplay, who cares. If this is a cops and robbers map, i think that you posted this in the wrong section. This map looks very plain. you could make a lot more aesthetic items on the map. yes, interlocking could help with aesthetics, but it's not necessary. i'll play it and then make a final judgement, til then, 2.5/5
I'm sure many have already said so, but you need some interlocking at the minimum. I like the layout, and you obviously have made things very neat here. Fix it all up with the interlocking and hell, why not add some geo-merging while your at it. If you don't know how to interlock or geo-merge, go to the Forging 101 forum. 2/5 for now.
Wow! Why are you guys so obsessed with interlocking. This map is phenominal. I love the idea and it reminds me of the old maps that needed innovation instead of fancy inter/geo merging. This map takes a simple idea and many other simple concepts(the roof, jail, bank, etc.) and pulls them together to make a simple yet incredibly fun idea. Now I love an aesthetically pleasing map as much as the next guy but seriously i would rather have a crappy looking fun map than a awesome looking boring one. Maps like Cat n' Mouse chase and Tremors are still being played and hailed as the best games ever created on Forgehub. You know why? Not because it was made to look like it was perfectly interlocked or smooth. They are the best because they took a new idea and made it into an extremely fun game. Same is with Gridlocked, voted best overall map in the best of forge(Sorry if im wrong but it did win something). It is just a bunch of double boxes put into a grid formation. sure he added a little scenery but the map conspet was just a bunch of boxes stacked up to make a grid system. Simple, innovative and great. So this map doesn't need all this interlocking and geomerging, it is great the way it is. But of course interlocking would make it more aesthetically pleasing but it is fun as it is now and i would like to finish with this one line that i believe describes this map: Why fix, what isn't broken?
Even though this map lacks interlocking, the layout as far as the weapons and geometry may play out well. Overall I can only rate this map a 7/10.
thanks for the advice everyone... but as for interlocking/geo-merging, what exactly do you recommend i do this to? If I remember correctly, the only things I've interlocked is the actual roof of the bank itself and nothing else.
