This is something I have been wondering for a while on most of my maps. Which grenade offers better gameplay in a foundry constructed level, plasma or Spike? While in close quarters a spike could require more skill to get a kill players are more used to plasmas even though I have always felt the plasma doesn't seem to fit with the human theme as well as the blast radius is rather large for most foundry levels. One thing I do want to avoid is a common stereotype of people insisting on sticking people even at the cost of their own life. While this is normally a legitimate strategy I find it ruins gameplay when they do it constantly even when they could easily win the fight. I have seen a few times where someone with a rocket launcher would rather stick me then fire. I have also noticed however, that this is less common with spikes. Unfortunately, spikes have their own problems most notably people seem to prefer not to use them and can lower a maps enjoyability. As this will certainly go into my considerations for most future maps I would like some input. Essentially I am wondering which grenade offers the best gameplay stimulators without causing people to overuse undesirable strategies. Thoughts? Note: I am assuming frags will naturally be a default and despite my love for fire physics in the Halo series firebombs are not being considered.
Their both good, depending on the map, but choose only one. In general, sticks are of a power weapon than plasmas, which are sometimes considered low level power weapons, and thus will have a higher respawn rate.
Spikes are more uncommon, and have a lower radius of their explosion, it shoots in one basic direction, but Plasmas have a higher radius and is more spread out. Plasmas do not bounce off of surfaces other than shield/energy doors, and can stick opponents. Plasma grenades do not explode until they settle on the ground, after which they have a 2-second fuse. Spikes adhere to all surfaces they impact, excepting Shield/Energy Doors. If a Spikey touches a wall/box/fence/etc., it sticks and detonates. Spikeys' blast radii are small in comparison to other grenades, and are conic in shape. Spike Grenades are therefore more effective in close-quarters situations. An Ideal Plasma Grenade map has: -Small, confined spaces -A “dark” area in it, as their bright blue is more noticeable in dark playspaces -Open spaces as well as the small ones -Solid ground -Vertically placed objects that the grenades can fall down after hitting -Narrow, walled-in areas -Angular passageways, typically 90 degrees or less -Hallways/tunnels -An industrial or urban “feel” Here's a better guide: http://www.forgehub.com/forum/halo-forge-discussion/15591-guide-effective-grenade-placement-usage.html
i would have to say plasma for more open maps, and spikes for close qaurter maps. BUT FRAGS ARE THE BEST!!!
i generally go with Plasma grenades, but if my map has alot of different surfaces all over the place, i feel the ability to stick to any area is ideal. for example: Bayonetwork's geometry required spike grenades. Excoriate had no real strange surfaces, and had alot of tight corners, so plasma was the choice.
Eh? I think that the English language has frowned in your general direction... Plasmas are a safe choice for the majority of maps, especially those that are large and/or open. If your map isn't small with an enclosed atmosphere, plasmas are the choice for you 90% of the time. However, a map with angled walls, a roof, and a claustrophobic feel probably fares better with spikes. Then the strategy of sticking walls and floors and ceilings for a sneaky kill on an unsuspecting opponent comes into play, whereas a plasma thrown at a wall is easily seen and will just bounce down into an easily avoidable position.
So far I am liking the input. I believe I will go with plasmas at this point. Although I do enjoy spikes since if you are skilled with them they are a powerful weapon. However, plasmas would seem to fit better here. I am also going with them due to their lesser weight. In the few parts were there are low ceilings that should be useful.
