    What is Halo 3: Recon?

Halo 3: Recon is a standalone, disc-based campaign expansion to Halo 3. It will be available at fine retailers around the globe in Fall of 2009.

I read on some Liveblog that Master Chief got out of the drop pod?

Negative, ghost rider. Instead of playing as the Master Chief (like players did in Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3) in H3: Recon, players take control of an ODST (an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) who entered orbit just after the slipspace rupture on New Mombasa (that event, you recall, took place as Regret left the planet – and in Halo 2, you followed him as the Chief). Now, players will learn more about what happened on New Mombasa during some of the events of Halo 2.

    Is Halo 3 : Recon a 3rd person / squad based shooter?

Nope. "Recon" is definitely first person and it's definitely still a Halo game as you've come to know it. That said, playing as an ODST in this new setting will bring some new twists to the gameplay.

How much will Halo 3 : Recon cost?

The price point has not yet been determined. While there will be a lot of content to enjoy and a great deal of replayability, this is still viewed as an expansion to Halo 3 more so than its equal.

We saw Assembly at PAX 2008, when will we get more downloadable content for Halo 3?

The Mythic Map Pack will be made available via Xbox Live Marketplace in early 2009. “Winter,” as they say. As soon as we have more details we will certainly share them.

Will the Recon campaign content or the other multiplayer maps be available through Xbox LIVE Marketplace?

Beyond the Mythic Map Pack early next year, there are no plans to release other portions of the Recon package outside of the retail box.

Is there a multiplayer component to Halo 3: Recon?

There are multiplayer maps that will appear as a part of the Halo 3: Recon package. This includes the aforementioned Mythic Map Pack in addition to a few others. You can also experience the entire Recon campaign cooperatively with up to 4 players.

Will we get to play as ODSTs in multiplayer now?

No. The multiplayer maps included with the retail package are straight up Halo 3 multiplayer maps. The ODST and other components that make up the Recon campaign are in a separate bucket and not crossing over into the competitive multiplayer realm. Think of it as two games in one.

Will the Halo 3 : Recon multiplayer maps work with "regular" copies of Halo 3?

If you purchase the Mythic Map Pack early next year via Marketplace and your friend waits and gets them with the Halo 3 : Recon retail package next Fall, you can still play together. The multiplayer maps are all part of the Halo 3 "title ID" family, regardless of where or how you get them.

What about other features from Halo 3?

Halo 3: Recon will still make use of Screenshots, Forge and Saved Films just like Halo 3 does.

Will Halo 3 : Recon have new achievements? Are these the same as the ones already "leaked" online?

There are actually two separate buckets for new achievements. The multiplayer achievements will be considered additive to your existing Halo 3 gamerscore. Some of these will be available when the Mythic Map Pack is released on Marketplace early next year. The Recon campaign will include a complete set of unique achievements and a full bounty of 1000 gamerscore to obtain.

This dude at 7-11 told me that there’s a new Campaign version of Forge coming?

Get your Slurpee somewhere else. The maps included with Halo 3: Recon certainly support Forge and the functionality it affords players. But, there isn’t a new Campaign Forge being added to the Halo 3 experience.

I read somewhere that this is the last Halo game Bungie is making. Say it isn't so!

We're not ready to discuss the other projects underway within the studio right now but Halo 3 : Recon does represent the final basket of goodness that we will be delivering for the Halo trilogy. There are no more offshoots or side stories in the works.

Is this the game that Bungie was intending to announce at E3?

Yes, we are happy to finally be able to pull back the curtain and share our latest project with our fans.

Will Halo 3 : Recon still use the Halo 3 engine?

Yes, this is very much an extension of the Halo 3 you have come to know and love complete with all the features included with the original game.

Is this all Bungie has been working on since becoming independent last October?

"Recon" represents one of several projects that we have underway within the Studio but it's the nearest to release and the only one we're able to talk about for now.

If this is an expansion built on top of the existing Halo 3 engine, why will it take two years to create?

Development of "Recon" actually just began in earnest this past Spring. This project is in the hands of a small team and represents our most ambitious release cycle yet as a Studio.

New campaign, new hero, fall 2009. Ugh I have to wait a whole year...

The new brutes look amazing, so does the new battle rifle.

So ... an ODST hero. Sounds badass to say the least.
Though that is quite a long wait, I am already excited for all the new features.
But why is it still under the Halo 3? Does it tie in with the current campaign storyline? Questions that will go unanswered for a long time.
    Looks cool, thanks for posting.

Wow this was just amazing bungie. The cinematic feel was amazing. But know I have some hunches with more details.

As me and Bluejayfan said once in the other thread when the teaser came out, there were probably surviors. We were correct =).

We also saw how the SI was malfunctioning, and repeating everything it once said.We thought that maybe the ODST guy would have to find the SI and repair it or something that will fix everything.

Obviously the SI is giving the ODST guy messages on where to go, how it siad proceed with caution, and then the arrows popped up when he go up close. The SI is probably leading him somewhere and maybe its to him or somehting much bigger.

But srsly 2009?WTF to long for us to wait ...=(

That was silenced smg and the brutes were just special forces, you know, the ones that are camoed.

But anyways, those graphics were just beastly though I still think it's just an add-on and not a new game because they still said halo 3 and only had 1 or 2 years to make the game.

And in the cutscene, was one of the brutes holding 2 assault rifles at the same time? Because that was pretty cool.

It's a brand new game that is going to be released retail. The focus will be more of a stealth oriented mission, or at least more so than the previous Halo games. There will most likely be the inclusion of 4 player co-op with a squad battle focus, new multiplayer maps, forge, theatre, screenshots, etc, and possibly new armour permutations. However, they probably won't be compatible with the original game. The release date they're aiming for is 9/25/09, or the closest tuesday.

Yes, this is from a source inside Bungie. No, I will not reveal his name.

I don't want to belive it.

I don't want them to stop Halo 3, like they did to Halo 2.This game sounds to much like RSV2 or COD4, thats not bungies stlye.

    Wow 9/29/09?Holy **** thats a long time.

I still don't even know if thats true, not saying your lieing, just I need proof to be exactly positive.

Don't worry, it's still gonna be Halo. There will just be more focus on cooperation in the aptly-called co-op mode, unlike in Halo 1, 2, or 3's co-op, where you can all just do the same thing and still win. However, they did bring on a person (I'll have to find the name again) to work on the game that previously worked on Rainbow Six Vegas.

Well hopefully that guy isn't a major designer or changes Halo's feel at all.

And will it still be 1st person?Or will it take on the dreaded 3rd person?

so halo 3 was only half a game when it was shipped... excellent news. This second half is looking pretty epic. Expect to see a new wave of ODST users in matchmaking.

Looks very interesting, I like the stealth idea, sneaking around was hard to do in the other Halo games.

And as forementioned, there seem to be weapon attachments available.
You can barely make out the SMG under the extended stock, sights and large silencer.

Bungie presented it well to keep everyone interested.
I also followed a link off of HBO to this page.

    It mentions expanded Forge options.
    "Expanded multiplayer collection:
No Halo experience would be complete without groundbreaking multiplayer content, and Halo 3: Recon gives fans more of what they love.
With exclusive new maps and expanded Forge options, Xbox LIVE® Gold members will find more multiplayer content than ever before with Halo 3: Recon."

Well, after further research, H3:R looks like what FEAR Files was to F.E.A.R.

This will most likely be a stand alone disc, and we will have to spend another $60 on it, but i know damn well this is gonna be worth it.

If you read the rss title it does say new game so it wasnt half a game, its a new disc most likely like a expansion pack. So in theory new armor and weapons is possible

i already realised that. I love this whole thing, but i wish it was more integrated into Halo 3... cause when Recon comes out, Halo 3 is dead. All the maps, all my favorite armor, and all our beloved forged creations.

It's still called Halo 3 because it's still running the same engine. Same deal as Half Life 2 running for 3 "episodes." I really hope they make it backwards compatible with H3 matchmaking, being from the same engine and all.

Heres a question though, if it is a new matchmaking experience, would we play the usual Spartan/Elites online or would we all be ODSTs? If we are a normal ODST, then we don't get MJOLNIR armor. That means no flipping tanks, far lower jump height, impotent beatdowns(if any), and worst of all no energy shields. That's a huge departure from the Halo multiplayer we've grown to love for 3 games now. Anyone have thoughts on this? I'm hoping the ODST we play is a Spartan-III at the very least, if not one of the remaining Spartan-II's, but there's nothing to back this up yet.

As far as I know it will still be first person. Halo is first person. Why change it? It wouldn't be Halo without it.

Come to think of it, Star Wars: Republic Commando was a tactical squad based shooter, and was first person. It worked well, and was a joy to play. If Bungie makes the game in a similar fashion, then I would have no problem with it.

I don't think its going to be the same.
As cool as this looks, I fear of what they are going to do with this.

But this confirms that there could be a Halo 4.
    Why?
Bungie is making this game with Microsoft still, even though their contract ran up.
Halo 3: Recon just a tide me over until Halo 4?

He's got a point up there too...
We will not be Spartans anymore.
Spartans = Beatdowns, flipping cars, and throwing far grenades.
Looks like Halo won't be Halo anymore.
