I decided to kick off this thread with something colorful - and something that would bring the reader directly to the point. On one side of the participant conflict above, God is listed as the culprit in the deaths of Millions - though on the other side, they were truly wicked people. What I want to discuss; Are we expected to do good things out of the kindness of our hearts, or by a process of fear? I have heard many times in my life that I should love god, and yet fear god. However... what do you think governs the lives of people? Why do you think people refrain from doing terrible things? Conscience? Fear? Love? Discuss.
Someone who devotedly follows Christianity is morally bound. That is, they are required to do that which pleases the God they serve. If you're unsaved, then you should be one of the following::: 1. Not concerned because you're not a Christian. 2. Desiring to become a Christian, and desiring knowledge concerning the subject.3. Bound only by the laws man has set forth. Summary: The answer to your question varies greatly, depending upon whether the subject (you/me/Tom/Bill) is a Christian or not.
Don't we already have enough religious topics...? Bleh, whatever. Just change the title to something a little more descriptive. Make sure it clearly shows this thread is focused on a certain part of the religious debate. If you can't do that then it will be locked.
Feel free to lock it. The title fully conveys the topic, whereas a more condensed subject would limit the progression of the discussion and induce yet more religious threads. I disagree with your ruling, and I will not change it... however, it is your ruling, therefore you should enforce it.
PERSONALLY, I don't believe in all that stuff, but I think the idea is too love God, not fear him. It can be confusing though, like they say, "God loves everyone." Then they will say, " God will damn all of the wicked to hell!" or something. It's hard to understand and a lot gets interpreted differently.
