He didn't edit the picture, he has a link to download it off his bungie file.
Also he probly got the picture by looking at an elite with a light behind him and at certain angles stuff can have wierd appearances.

I've seen a few pictures like this and this one is one of the better ones. I love how the eyes glow and there are certain parts of the armor that glow too. That's a very cool shot.
