Well, I know there was a thread recently about the ipod, but I really want some opinion on this specific thing. I've been wanting to buy an iPhone, saving up for it for quite a while... But, here's the thing, I'd only be able to get it mid february next year, because I have to wait for my 2-year contract with AT&T to be over, otherwise I'd be paying 399, not 199. But here's the thing, you all know the catch, the store price is 199, but it ends up costing thousands because of monthly bills, etc. So for that main reason, I've been thinking, maybe an iPod touch would be a better option. But, what do you guys think? Any personal experience?
I say go with the iTouch. The iPhone makes you pay for pretty much everything you do on it, which can get very annoying. The iTouch is a one-time deal and the 2nd gen. has the built-in speaker. So it's pretty much an iPhone without the camera or phone. I still need to get the 2nd gen. iTouch...
Yea, I'd go with the iTouch. You get almost everything you get with the iPhone except that it costs so much less in the end. The monthly bills are so frigging huge compared to my phone bill now, it's so much more money. I would save the money and just worry about carrying a normal phone and a iTouch at the same time (which can be a huge burden
Touch just because you don't need infinity monies to use it. However that is probably if you are going on internets a lot and stuff. I would say iPhone only if you worked a job where you needed it like a contractor, lawyer, and other management positions.
You can get on FH with an iTouch to. They both haz free internet. I would know, that's what I do while running on the treadmill in gym.
But wait, with the iTouch, you can only get on the internet when there's wireless spots, right? And the iPhone, basically anywhere right? But can I go on wi-fi spots with the iPhone?
It really depends on what you want, and what you can afford. AT&T's minimum monthly bill for the iPhone is $70 a month. If you can afford that, then I would absolutely get the iPhone when your contract ends. If you're worried that you can't afford those monthly bills, then you should probably stick to the ipod touch. Something else to consider: The nice thing about having a phone and an ipod is that when one breaks you still have the other. If an iPhone breaks, you're out of a phone and an ipod (ouch). Also: The largest size of an iPhone you can get right now is 16gigs. The largest iPod Touch size is 32 gigs, so if you want to store a lot more music on it, then get the ipod touch. Once again, it comes down to what you want, and what you can afford.
I would definetly say iTouch, unless you like spending lot of monies... The only thing that I like about the iPhone is the 3G, that would be the reason I would get it.
The cheapeast one is $70 a month?! :O Well, I get 10 dollars a week, and I dont work yet...maybe I could get one if I get a job by then...idk though. I read an article on the internet, that eventually, they're going to have this thing, we're you can buy an iPhone for $400 without a binding contract, but you'd have to pay 30 some dollars a month for internet, and etc. That's why I was asking if the iPhone can acess the internet with wifi spots, not just with the AT&T thing. And I have a pretty old 30 gig ipod, and I've only used 3 gigs, so size wouldn't really make that big of a difference to me... Actually, it would, cause I really want to get a lot of apps...especially the free ones. Thanks for your opinion.
I'm stuck with this too. I'm probably going to wait and get a pay as you go iPhone. The new touch looks amazing though,
Could you explain what the benefits are? I rather know them, before I buy something that;s gonna end up costing over thousands in the long run... And, I read somewhere, that even though it's a cheaper store price, you dont end saving more than the 1st gen ipod, in the long run.
It's true. The 1st gen iPod cost $400 right out of the store. During that time, the minimum monthly payment you could make was $60 a month (10 bucks cheaper than now). So a two year contract on the old iPhone would cost $1440...then add the original cost of the phone and that brings the grand total of the 1st gen iPhone to $1840 over the course of two years. Now we have the new 3G iPhone: The minimum monthly payment is $70 a month, therefore over the course of two years you would have to pay $1680. Once you add the cost of the actual phone (200) that brings the grand total of the new iPhone to $1880....40 dollars more than the previous model. While it may only be 40 dollars...the numbers up front are deceiving someone into thinking the iPhone is now cheaper. If you aren't paying for your current phone plan (your parents are), you might be able to pay the difference between what your bill costs now and what the bill will cost once you have the iPhone. That would probably bring you to your $40 dollars a month price, which you can afford. It might suck not having spending cash though. For where you stand financially, I'd get the touch, then when you have a more solid job down the road you can pick up the newer version of the iPhone (which will undoubtably have even cooler features).
