Stupid crap. My HP DV6000 laptop, the battery of which lasts maybe 2 hours at the most, pretty much konked out on me yesterday. Why?

    The power cord melted off.

    Yeah, I know, wtf.

The wire that plugs into my computer melted near where the adapter brick is, and it must've gotten hot enough that the cord melted apart.

So for now, I'll have to be using my crappy home desktop computer, with a screen resoultion of 1024x768.

    Oh, joy.

Lol does your laptop have Ubuntu? I sure hope you can get the problem fixed. That must really suck.

    Incidentally, yes. Yes, it does.

And normally I'd go to CompUSA or something to see if they have a replacement, but there is no CompUSA on my island; at least, not anymore. So I'll have to wait a couple days/weeks for a new one to ship in from HP.

I was thinking of getting a new laptop anyways, though.

MAC lol, or just a really good PC that you can put linux on. I would of course suggest mac, because of the computer quality, but I know you like the linux stuff, so ya I would find out what a powerful PC laptop is that won't die on you.

Of course, I could easily just install Ubuntu on a MacBook and be off with that. However, I'm not a fan of Macs. Simply put, Apple's products all look the same, with little to no variation other than size and color.

Wow...you must have been on it for a long time for it to melt off, amirite?

Because power cords shouldn't just melt off... :/

HP DV Laptops heat up to the same temperature as my bunsen burner.

If I leave my laptop on long enough, the stickers on it bubble from heat.

Which could be a serious problem.

The cord near the power brick was sorta hanging off a table, and I guess the weight, combined with the heat, pulled itself apart.

Muah thats why i go with dell. I have an insprion 1520, and its really quiet, i never hear the fan, the loudest thing i hear is the buzzing of my hardrive if i put my head on the keyboard. It also has a great ventlation system, and its always a nice warm tempature, and its never hot, or burns, likewise with my power cord. Dell laptops ftw. screw macs.

That's why you don't leave power cords next to active flamethrowers.

But seriously, that sucks. Hope you get your new laptop soon...

File a complaint to the company. You probably could get a new one, so long as your warranty hasn't expired.

How is that crappy? Spoiled, much?

Didn't they close all the CompUSAs down? At least in Michigan...

I hear Dells are great for pr0nz.

Well, I just updated the drivers and swapped the monitor with a spare computer I had, so now it's something like 1280x1024.
I heard somewhere that they still have a few stores open.

I don't think I've ever had anything better than 1024.
I had a 864 my whole life, until sept last year when I got this computer.

    Oic.

lol buy an overpriced product to just put lunix on it.

There's really not much you can do if your'e looking for laptops. It seems to get a laptop with the same specs as a pc, it'll cost double or triple.

I agree that some PCs are fine when it comes to heating, but I never EVER hear my mac except when it starts and all that sounds like is some gears. Anyway I just use what works for me.
