Although its never happened to me i have had a mate who got the dreaded 'ring of death' on their 360. For those of you lucky enough to have not heard of this its where the power button turns 3/4 red and your 360 refuses to play. Anyways there is a temporary fix for this problem if you should get it. I say temporary because it will get lame having to do this every 4-5 days so you will have to replace eventually. There are several videos on youtube showing this 'trick' but this is the only one i've watched and its pretty simple. Basically you just disconect your 360 from everything, hard drive included, power cable not, and leave it wrapped in 3 towels for 25 minutes. Don't know how it works but it does ive seen it first hand. My friend did this last week and hasn't had to do it again but im betting he will soon. Here's a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avWs4-wD15w&NR=1 and hope it helps. Oh and it most definately is not me in the video.

LoL, wow, that guy completely is a moron... he had no clue what was going on, and he broke his robocop gun... that video could have been like 5 minutes shorter if he wasnt so estupido.
My room mate that works at Best Buy told me the same thing. He said that it never had any problems after that.
Yeah, the towel trick is pretty old news, but it works. I've never used it, but I've heard it's good.
I mean seriously, if you pay attention to the subtleties of the video, it is actually the powers of the robocop gun that fix the 360, not the towels.
I actually did this and yes it does work. My xbox broke right before halo 3 came out and I was like, I am not waiting for it to be returned by Microsoft. So i asked my friend who told me this. I tried it and it works perfectly. After playing H3 for a while I finally returned it. Microsoft had no problems with me doing this so I guess it fine.
it would be nice to know exactly how this makes it work again, i'm curious about the technical part of this. I got the ring of death last summer but got an elite as a replacement so no towels for me.
I've seen explinations of how it works before. Apparently after a while something overheats and that causes some sauder to melt and loosen sometihng. Supposedly the towel makes the 360 hot enough that the sauder melts and then when you take the towels off it soldifys (is that the word I'm looking for?) and it end up re-connecting the microchip. Thats just one theory I have heard. I'm not sure whether it is true or utter bullshit.
Ok, well of what I know that sounds pretty much right. -I think the sauder you stated is more like a kind of coolant put on the metal obviously to keep it "cool". Microsoft uses such cheap materials that this coolant begins to harden and flake or something. By putting the towel around the 360 it heats it up so much the the coolant material all melts backs together again. It only lasts for so long however until it happens again. The steps can be repeated over and over. I have done it.
Ahhhhhhhhh.......... No. First off its "Solder" not "Sauder" Solder is not there to cool anything. Solder is the substaince that is used to connect small components, such as diods, capacitors, resisters, micro-chips, ect. It is highly unlikely that solder would melt at such a low temperature. As stated on wikipedia, solder has a melting point of 361.4 °F (183 °C). Also, as stated on dynalabcorp, ABS plastic, the material the xBox 360 is made of, has a melting point of 221 °F (105 °C). So basically, the case of the xBox 360 would melt before the solder.
