I was very excited to hear of the song creator coming to GHWT. I was more excited about RB2, and planning on buying the disc, maybe getting new drums and an extra guitar as I only have one. When I first heard about full cross compatibility I was like yay definitely getting GH for song creation. Than I watched a video and worried that drum velocity wouldn't cross over, but finding out it did I thought good now I don't need GH drums. I than heard you needed the GH guitar to use song creator, but that's no problem, I'll get the guitar/game bundle and not buy a RB guitar. But now, I'm hearing "song mixer, song mixer"

    So my questions are:

    1) Will it be possible to use a RB guitar for song..studio
    2) Is it an actual song creator? Start from scratch, write the song, write all the instruments, have a unique song, or is it just mixing already available and created songs together? I.e Lenny Kravitz (w/e) vs Jimi Hendrix?

    This was my understanding:

You don't import music at all....its not possible.
You have to create songs note by note for all instruments.
    No vocals will be allowed.

That was my impression from what IGN said a few weeks back. It could have changed.

Yeah i knew there was no importing, what I meant was mixing existing GH songs. The note by note, while thats what I hoped for, but no vocals?? WTF whats the point of creating songs? Half of creating a song is the friggin lyrics? Do you happen to have the link? Thank you for the answer btw.

Here it is. They start talking about the editor roughly halfway through the page. It gives a pretty good desciption on what you can do.

There are two very good reasons that they're are no vocals.

    1. Copyright issues. This limits people from completely copying a song without having the rights to it.
    2. If they did that, some idiot kid could put up a song that says every profanity known to man.

However, it will allow you to set a note that the singer can try and hit. It's basically so the singer can participate, but there are no words that they have to say.

It will basically be a bigger version of the program "Guitar Pro". you tab out the songs and change the length of the notes, and piece it all together. its how i write everything i write, so im sure this will allow me to fit comfortably at home.

Yeah, I was wondering how this creator was going to get around people creating all the dlc songs+ and never downloaded them again. I figured Activision was just desperate to best EA :)

As for the idiot kid, I'm pretty sure there would have been many ways to get around that. One is not downloading from random people, or unpopular songs. Two would be a way to ax the vocals after downloading the song.

But yeah, thanks for the answers guys. I'm still debating on whether or not it's worth my money, or if I'll stick with RB2.

Well maybe you can prevent yourself from DLing music from random people, but millions of others won't. Any single little chance that a child could DL an inappropriate song is a chance that activision could get sued and what not. It's a much safer and more sure way to make sure that these things don't happen because activision cannot count on their audience to be responsible.

I think that if all it is is a note editor it will do very poorly. I mean that would make it basically something someone may misinterpret as a real song editor. If that is all it is then I am out. I'll stick with Rock Band.

I'm pretty sure you will beable to CREATE your own songs from scratch. That's what it looks like here.

    This is from wikipedia.

My sentiments exactly. What I believe it is, is a various set of loops which you can stack and change pitch, add hammer ons and such. I was at work today and my manager said they had axed a large majority of the creator.

    RB ftw

I think this debate has been had. Online actions aren't rated, thus are more than mature. There is console restrictions, there is so much that can be done. I'm going to stick with the copyright infringements+they want DLC to be useful.

For anyone who is wondering, yes, the song creator is just that. You create songs from scratch, any notes you want with any timing. They will have set loops you can input into the song, but if you want you can make up your own beat. Then, outside of the song creator is GH mix. This is where you take what you just recorded and fine tune it. You can change pitches of sections, change the guitar sound, even add in notes straight from there. So basically they have 1. A song creator where you can make up the song on the fly and 2. GH tunes which will let you edit what you have recorded.
