I just realized this while looking at a screenshot. You all know the sound of a Spartan punching another Spartan. Why does it sound like he's punching flesh? I mean, their wearing armor that weighs over a ton. Don't you think it'd sound more like metal on metal? Your thoughts?
It sounds better. And they're hitting each other with such force that the armor buckles and cracks and crushes the flesh. then the pressure built up from the suit crushing inward forces blood and skin and flesh and tissue to be squeezed through the crack/hole. Therefore a sound of punching flesh?
Seeing as I got an infraction for writing "LOL nice..." to "Mastar's comment how about this...Wow nice comment Mastar that was really creative! Anyways...I believe Bungie made the fleshy sound to make the game sound even cooler.
The whole sound of punching flesh is probably down to lazyness. If Master Chief was to punch a Flood Form it would not sound right it was a clattering metal noise. Maybe Bungie just decided to use the same sound for all melee to save them work and space on the disc. Also it was the same in Halo and Halo 2 a big thing has never been made of it so therefore no need to address it i guess. Can you imagine if it was a more metallic noise. Would sound odd i think. Even though the fleshy sound might seem odd i think people would be a bit more suprised to have any other noise used. Finally i do not think that Marty has to much to do with sound effects. He is too busy writing the awesome orchestral pieces to go in behind all the Halo noises.
Good point. Bungie has proven themselves to be very lazy. And I think that if we were used to that metal noise then it wouldn't be weird at all. And the fleshy noise is also a sort of 'universal punch' noise. So I think it'd just take getting used to.
I agree with mastar. Hitting flesh and that sound is a lot more satisfying than hearing yourself hit metal. It sounds more like you're actually doing damage.
I don't think lazy would be the best way to describe their online play, their graphics and even their community involvement. I believe that hitting metal to metal doesn't sound like it would cause much damage. And being that a melee to the back is instant kill, and anywhere else is an instant shield drop, I don't think it should sound like a punch that is just being ricochet back.
If I remember correctly in Halo: CE when you punched armor it sounded like hitting metal. (Maybe it was only on Marines, though..) I find the sound of bashing in flesh to be deeply satisfying.
I can see what you mean. But for some reason, I don't look at the Spartans as wearing metal armour. It could be some sort of enhanced substance that sounds like flesh when it's punched. Or, a more likely conclusion, it just is a lot more satisfying to the player to hear the familiar "thwuk" sound when they hit someone. I mean, can you imagine if every time you meleed there was a "CLANG!" or a "*****"?
But if you want a cool metal clanking sound then you just can't beat the classic sound of meleeing a hunter in halo CE. It made a nice and crisp clanking sound which was awesome.
Yeah I agree. Maybe Bungie should add something (like sword clashing). When 2 people melee eachother at the same time they are both given only half damage and there's a loud clashing metal sound, like their fists hitting eachother.
Why is it that when you have no shields and you are being shot blood comes out? Is Spartan/Elite armour that weak that they have to depend on their shields to stay alive? Or are all spartans/elites so very weak and puny that they bash about inside their armour?
It's just that the guns and Melees are that strong. If a Spartan's or Elite's armor could actually protect them, they would be a heck of a lot slower than what they are now. Yeah, the fleshy sound is more satisfying than a metal sound would be.
