Woah, definitely not. Chicago is in the center of the United States, and LA is on the West Coast. Very far from one another.

Another reason why Chicago needs the Olympics...it'll put us on the National map. People generally know where New York, Boston and LA are. But I guess its not as obvious where Chicago is.

I live in London, and I can truly say that the whole idea of 2012 is frightening.

The project is billions of pounds over budget, security is going to be nigh-on impossible, and daily commuters like me will face hell to travel anywhere in rush hour periods on the underground. The point of view of many londoners is completely negative - I know for a fact that many are completely opposed to the games. It's all dandy if you live outside London - seems great that the olympics is coming to the UK... practically though, I'm not sure how this city will cope with such a sudden influx of people.

In all honesty, my opinion is probably media-influenced - everyone in this city is a cynical bastard in one way or another... to be a Londoner cynicism is essential! In the end, it will bring positives in many forms... we'll just have to wait and see whether these outway the inherent problems associated with such a large-scale event.

Yea supposedly the cost of the olympics here in IL is supposed to cost more then the state itself. I'll add this point to the thread. but how do you thing taxes will be after the olympics. the taxes here are high enough

The Olympics should be self funded. The money they make from the Olympics should be more than enough to pay for all of the work needed. And then of course there is the local economy boost....

Same with me - I also live in London, well the outskirts at least. It's certainly not going to be as well organised as the Olympic games in Beijing. There will be tonnes of traffic and security will be incredibly tight.

Still it's going to be really enjoyable and I might even make a trip up to the games with my family. It will (hopefully) do wonders for Stratford but it will affect the whole city. I hope it's a success.

As for the hundreds and maybe thousands of tourists, it will be a little cramped but loads of people immigrate to London every day - we'll just know about all of them this time. The Olympic park will run something like a theme park I think.

They were supposed to be in Toronto this year... But Beijing won out... :/... But I'm actually happy they did. Because it would've cost so much in tax $...
