This is my FFA map, Gauntlet. It is a small map, forged on foundry, centered around a "spire." Gameplay becomes rather hectic due to the small area of the map and how all the action seems to center around the spire in the middle. The map supports slayer, oddball, multi-ball oddball, king of the hill, and crazy king. Team slayer and team oddball also work quite well. Here is a list of the weapons and equipment on the map: sniper rifle x1 shotgun x1 needler x1 brute shot x1 battle rifle x 4 assault rifle x 2 smg x2 spiker x2 plasma grenades x8 bubble shield x1 flare x1 regenerator x1 deployable cover x1 I know the map isn't the prettiest, and the merging is rather crude, but I designed this map based on the gameplay. For example, in the corners of the map are "bunkers" with two levels. Now in king of the hill, the hill is tall enough to encompass both levels, to ensure that someone doesn't just camp below with the shotgun. And after much testing, i believe the map plays very well, and the weapon placement is balanced. Here is the general explanation of the map. The spire in the middle has several levels. The top is a little more than two single boxes long, and this is where the sniper is. However, if you choose to keep the sniper up there, I doubt you'll live long enough to profit from it. the second level is simply the inside of one of the boxes that makes up the spire. This is where the active camo is. The final level is the shotgun spawn which is roughly a single box in size. It is on the ground level and can be shot at from the outside, making it a risky endeavor to nab the shotgun. To either side of the spire is a bunker containing a weapon. One has the needler, and the other has the brute shot. Other than that there are the "bunkers" at the corners. The top level is open and has a BR. The bottom of each has two plasma grenades. I am also working on a fourth (and final) version of the map. Any constructive criticism and suggestions would be appreciated. Now, last but not least, the screenshots. This is an overview of the spire that is in the center of the map. This is the bunker with the needler. This is the bunker with the brute shot This is one of the corners of the map. You can see the crate that the grenades sit on, and in the space below the bridge, there is either a deployable cover, a regenerator, or a smg and spiker combo. This is the back of the spire. Shotgun spawn and sniper spawn are visible, as well as the flare. And, if you would like to download the map and try it out, here is the link. I just noticed. They'll be fixed in about fifteen minutes. I need some help. When I put the url in, it doesn't work, it just erases it when i hit post. This is the format I'm using. Any ideas as to what's wrong? Ok I fixed it. Never mind.
I don't know what is wrong since I don't use ImageShack(That's what you used, right?). I will check into it though. EDIT: Looks good, thanks for fixing. I think the problem was you should only have IMG code and not the URL but maybe not. Nice map it looks symmetrical. There is no interlocking though, many people here on ForgeHub would kill you for no interlocking. Add some more cover though and it will be peachy. 3.5/5
I think running around with the oddball would be kinda fun on this map but it needs a little something else to spice it up a bit.
I completely agree jigsaw. Any suggestions on how to "spice it up" would be appreciated. Once again I know the map needs a bit of fixing up (its an early version and I usually make about 12 versions before I consider to be officially finished with the map) but please give me suggestions. And if you say more interlocking, tell me where at.
I can't really see the map with the pictures you have posted, but one thing I would like to remind you about is weapons placement. It sound like it may be a little jam packed...
Check out Forging 101 for some interlocking tips. Your map really needs it. As for gameplay, the map has potential. However it really doesn't stand out.
I know HOW to interlock, I just didn't find it necessary for this map. I was on a deadline, and did not want to sacrifice the gameplay for the looks. Rest assured, future versions will look a lot cleaner, and still play just as well. Actually, I think I'm going to try and clean it up a lot tomorrow, so check back in around noon or so. I'll post new pics and everything. Also, I have a question. I won't want to post a new version of this map until its like version 5 or 6. When I do post a new version of the map, do I post it as a new map, or edit this? Or is either way ok?
I just finished playing this map. It doesn't look like much, but the gameplay is amazing. The interlocking does need touching up, but I think you can handle that. Can't wait for the updated version to come out. Oh, and I'll edit the map a little bit, and send it to you over Live to see what you think. I have a few suggestions here and there. Anyways, i give the looks of the map a 2/5, but I'm sure you'll improve those. The gameplay gets a 4.5/5
Yes, the interlocking is taking much longer than I expected. And I think that once I reach version five, I will just post it as a new map.
That seems like a good idea to me. I should have my version of your map ready in a couple days. I think you'll like it.
Ok, I'm almost done with version five. Besides interlocking (which will be taken care of in this version. I promise) what could I do to make this map more interesting? For example, where could I add cover, take it away, place spawn points, modify weapon placements or respawns, etc.
