Hey I just came around a subject in my group the chicago hub and though of this debate. If you had the olympics come to your city in the next 8 years would you like it or not? Think about how it would effect gas prices, traffic, economy, and your cities title and world standing. Whats you point of veiw? I though of this because the city of chicago is thinking about having the olympics in 2016.

    Edit:
The cost of having the the olympics here in IL is supposed to cost more then the state itself. Because of this how do you thing taxes will be after the olympics?

well im 14, i don't know much about economy, but I think it would be cool to have the olympics come to Boston...(not like thats where i live or anything, forgehub has no rapist right???) Anyway, I think it would be cool to have stars fly from all over the world, because in my opinion, boston is an amzing city. I'm assuming economy in my city would only imrpove right? with some olympic t-shirts and stuff. traffic already sucks here, thats the worst part, it can get bad on the highways. i think my city would become even more world renown, I know some people here live in small towns, so thats probably who this question is directed at. So overall, I would love it. Micheal Phelps is dirty nasty.

    I wouldn't like it ..
    I wouldn't go as i don't like going to stadiums much ..
but then the roads will be packed around the stadium and it'll take much longer to drive to town because of the traffic ..
    You get me?

It wouldn't happen in DFW (Dallas, Fort Worth area), TX. Its too hot, but most of the stuff is already built.

I only see it as bad because of the traffic but I can see why you would. it'd probably increase econmy.

As I said before I really hope the Olympics come to Chicago. We have a beautiful cityscape, some of the best museums around, and some of the best food in the world. Not only that but the Olympics would help boost the city's economy. It might be hard to find a hotel in the city during that time, but most suburbs have Metra running through them, so finding somewhere to stay shouldn't be too hard.

Was this me that brought it up?

Anyway, this is the only debate I can't really pick a side on :/

On one side, the Olympics would create way too much traffic and it would be impossible to get around. Not to mention the lack of hotel/motel space available and I'm sure with the advertising the city, most restaurants would be really packed.

On the other side, the economy would boost up in Chicago, so a lot of changes would occur. A lot of repairs would finally be put to rest and hopefully better "aesthetics" would start to appear. If you worked a job that gets a lot of advertising in the city, I'm sure your paycheck would double.

But overall, I would have to say no. I can think more about it later. Still on the fence with that answer.

I bet a lot of people will get hotels in the suburbs, and then take the Metra Train into the city. I don't think traffic would be too bad, most people will use public transportation in a city like Chicago. I'm sure the city would provide special transportation services as well.

And some city projects would be finished much sooner with the Olympics coming to Chicago. I'm all for it.

I love taking the Metra train, but it would be crowded. Like really crowded. But you're right, a lot of it would be with buses and trains. Another aspect might be crime rate or fire hazards. I guess they would be thinking out everything that I'm thinking right now, so it shouldn't be too bad. It could be a good way to clean up the city, so I change to a yes.

I live in Britain, and I'm not sure about the Games.
The terrorists are probably already planning something for it.

The olympics came to Los Angeles, didnt they? I thought that was near to Chicago. Back on subject, I think that having the Olympics in a nearby city will be great. I live 50 miles from outer London so in 2012 I can garuntee I will be there. For Britain as a country it will welcome tourism, money, fantastic new facilities and put Britain in the spotlight again.

After all just look at what the Olympics did for China.... It put them in the public eye of the worlds citizens, its what they wanted and its helped them grow to become much more of an economic superpower. My answer is that if the Olympics come near you it will be a good thing. Unless terrorists attack!

I'm so happy they are having the Olympics in Chicago. There is a lot to be done, and lots of people will be here. With the traffic in Chicago already, just imagine what it would be like + the Olympics. But still...it's the Olympics! :D

Having the Olympics come to my nearby city would be great except that it will never happen.

I mean come on. Who here thinks the Olympics are coming to Philly?

It would be sweet to have the Olympics in Chicago, the only problem would be money.... I think they said the budget for the olympics would be more than the entire state(Illinois)... BTW Yes I do live near Chicago, about 50 mile away
