Damn, if you guys are gonna argue so much, move this to the debate section!

But I think it will most likely replace halo for a month, and then the dedicated forgers will realize they are meant for halo and stay there.

Far Cry and Halo are quite inconparable. If you're the kind of Forger who only stays on Foundry, then you will find Far Cry very different indeed, its up to you wether you like it or not.

In Halo, when Forging, every miniscule item plays a big role on the game, its much more about where everything is placed. In Far Cry, that is still there. A good Far Cry editor will check everything he places plays well, down to the tiniest piece of scenery. Ontop of that, the variety of maps that Far Cry will offer is staggering.

Its annoying me people saying that theres no work or effort involved, or no 'skill' just because you can spawn a building in one click:

    - You can still make buildings almost from scratch, and also remember that you are going to have to place all of the interior objects to make the building look real and play fair.

    - If you think that is still too easy, then try making an entire city, that looks accurate and realistic, and plays flawless, then tell me there is no skill involved.

Thats what I've been trying to say. Far Cry probably takes so much more skill. Not only do you have to worry about objects and scenery, but you have to worry about THOUSANDS of them! So everyone QFT about far cry taking no skill.

I'm sure they will have tabs or something to organize it, like forge.

Thats what I've been trying to get across. In forge you don't make maps. You put boxes and items in an already made map. Essentially, you barely change the original map at all. In Far Cry you will be able to actually make completely new maps. This gives you so many more options of what to make. You could remake all the maps in Halo if you want.

dosn't require skill - PAH! I think what some people are thinking is that making a bunch of mountains, a few rivers and a bunch of trees dosn't require skill - you be right, it looks so simple.

However, making maps that dont fit the above description, show uniqueness and plays perfectly is another matter. It sounds as though you could imagine any part of the world and you can make it. One of the documentaries which interviews the designer of the map editor of Far Cry 2 tells us how people have used their creativeness to create all sorts of maps such as ports, subway tunnels, railway stations - the possibility is endless and not constricted to a small warehouse with item limits

Well, I think I'm gonna get Far Cry 2, but Halo's forge is totally different. Not only does making maps in forge take a lot more skill, but Halo's gameplay is one of the best if not the best on the XBOX. And with the supposed update, Halo's forge might get a bit more big picture like that. I think forge isn't going to get outdated.

Have you played any of the Far Cry games and used the editors?

Have you Forged to the point where you reached the limit to its capabilities?

I agree with Matty on this one. The Forge and the Far Cry map editor are incomparable, like apples and potatoes. Saying that making Far Cry maps takes no skill is like saying urban planning takes no skill

The Eiffel tower at around 4:32 of this video is made of smaller pipes and blocks. Now tell me that takes no skill..

wow - i thought that was an inbuilt feature like pre-built landmarks or summit

Now come on, after seeing that you have to agree that Far Cry has the ability to go into the much finer detail of the multiplayer maps

    Woah, that looks freaking awesome!

But it can have as good a map editor as it likes, if the gameplay is rubbish, who will play the maps?

    What exactly is 'Rubbish gameplay'?

From what i have heard, the Far Cry gameplay has been very strong.

From experience i didn't think it to be spectacular.

The thing is, with over 30 weapons and changable gametype settings. It really doesnt matter. If the gameplay doesnt fit your playstyle, you make a map that does.

I loved Farcry's single player, it was the first game I bought on the 360. It was around the same month as halo 3's release so I obviously didn't play it alot. I know that it will be fantastic like the first Farcry minus the mutatations.

I think people are saying it will be easy just because you can create something that "looks" like a great multi-player map in 10 minutes. Yes you can create a map that is sounded by mountains and features an island with pre-made buildings in the middle and add forest everywhere else around it and it will look amazing, but its all about creating a truly great layout and making sure everything is balanced (think how much one building can effect a map).

Ehh from what I've seen/heard there are four gametypes that you can use, or combine them in various ways, and I'm guessing most of the weapons in the game will function fairly similarly so I don't think you'll be able to change the playstyle very much and especially not in comparison to halo.

Doesn't anyone else know about the new map editor coming out for Halo 3? A editor that allows you to place AI bots and make the landscape and everything, this link shows more about it. In the video watch the entire thing till the very end and look at what he is standing on when he throws the grenade! It looks so sweet!!!!

It hasn't been confirmed at all. For all we know, Bungie just placed some AI in Rats Nest, and is working on some new Foundry style map with more objects.

Zach, by now most people on forgehub know about that. But this thread is NOT about it, so please nobody post about the new halo forge, 'cause it isn't confirmed. But wow! The eiffel tower made of misc. pipes and stuff! Queued(?) on Gamefly.

as i said - if its going to be anything nearly as good as Far cry's its going to be one HUGE download which I personally dont want if its going to take up lots of storage. And really, untill more is revealed in terms of vids about the map ed for Halo, I aint keeping my hopes up as to how good its going to be. I was originally excited, but seeing the new onws just brings it back to you that Halo is becoming an old game now
