Well, the day of Judgment has come to past... now all we have to do is wait for the rebuilding of mapkind.
It's more like Judgment week...or two...lmfao...It takes a bit to thoroughly test & see there is no interlocking/merging...(merging is rather obvious...but ya...) And I have irl **** to address...So be patient everyone...
Ha take your time Tex, i would rather you finish in a week and take ytour time, and get it right, Rather then have you half-ass it, and have some map w/ interlocking win.
so, I have a question for you Tex, will the winners of this map be front aged, or shall i say, will I and the other 3 winners be front paged, since it's a prety well known contest? (I hope everyone on this thread knows, im not cocky or concieted or anything haha, i just love acting like it)
Highly doubtful, as there is a long list of stuff to put up there atm. Though, if I can get someone to, I will be.
That would be cool if the overall winner got their map featured. I'm sure you can talk something over with the higher ups.
I think that's a very good idea, because bragging rights can wear off. Tex, you should really take that into consideration. I love the idea. Although we could just end up doubling the size of Mallet's ego, if it does happen.
It was brought up with the staff after the first competition, and I heavily endorsed the idea. I know there's a laundry list of maps that are to be featured, but I'm not privy to the actual discussion. I hope that it makes it, because it would be a great twist to show everyone that you can still make a good map without all the interlocking. I'm digging the other contest that MattDGiant is holding with the original maps. It's nice to see people willing to spice things up a little.
I agree completely with this post. Too many people just care for a maps looks now a days. Sure, it's always good to have your map look nice. But it doesn't always need interlocking to look nice.
Agreed, but does anyone realize how little that is going to effect the community as a whole? You will always see those "Needs more interlocking" posts. Regardless of those who recognize that it is not a necessity. I imagine out of all of those who know of this contest, only about 50% will actually take it to heart when posting in a map thread (or not posting because of interlocking), let alone downloading. Just trying to make a point. Interlocking isn't a necessity, but there is no way to get the halo community to understand that.
The only way is if someone of high authority makes a thread about it or the winner of the lazy map maker get featured (you could put the article in that thread). By doing this people might realize that maps don't have to be interlocked to the maximum. They can be just slightly interlocked to help gameplay. I noticed this with my lmc map, it plays really well and I am also going to make a interlocked/ geo-merged version after the competition has finished. I might even make a thread about it myself. In that thread I would go into detail about the purpose of interlocking and how it can improve gameplay and make a map look pretty.
When I said Halo Community, I meant more then just forgehub today. New members come in everyday, while not all current members are active every day, so it'd be ridiculous to expect those posts to be abolished.
Unfortunately you're right. We can't win over everybody. But with most thing's no one can. It would still be nice to see it happen though, I mean, some of these maps are so well made that it looks like interlocking was used. I think in my thread for 3rd Judith someone said "Nice Interlocking". (I lol'd) Sure, they'll realize there is no interlocking (or at least a lack of it) after they do a forge through, but that's usually what ends up happening to most maps. After the forge through they just discard it like an empty soda can.
Not true. People will post "need more interlocking" cause if you read through the comments for most featured maps, you see the same old "Great map 5/5." As if they hardly even looked. No one reads, or pays attention. All they care is who made it, it was featured, and some pics. Hence, a lazy map will probably either get blind reviews, or the person who just says "looks good, but needs interlocking". And I personally had no issue not interlocking, since I used techniques that I used when I interlock to attempt and create this map as smooth as possible. However, the thing about geo-merging and interlocking is not to make a map look 'pretty' cause poor interlocking and merging can make a map look worse, but rather create unique structures and formations. When it is hard to make a curve without interlocking, it is easily achieved with interlocking, hence, it is more of a gameplay element than an aesthetic one.
I think people will read the actual front page, especially if Tex writes it in his blood red text. I say the winners of this should be front paged. It's a really cool contest. It's got the banner with the fat guy and everything.
It's actually called "Tough guy red text", but anyway... It got discussed with the writers of forge hub, and we talked about it a little on this thread, it's not getting front paged, theres too much stuff going on that deserves it as well. And yes, the fat guy banner is pretty cool, and the LMC2 winner, is gonna look great in my sig.
Aw, sad news, but oh well. Maybe eventually this contest will grow even bigger than it already is, it will be frontpaged, until then we got Blombas's sig
