I've taken all the feedback I've gotten about weapon placements and made another version. Hopefully everyone will approve of the changes now. The is only a rocket launcher in the center of the map now and the brute shots have been moved to the outer ring. Maulers, Spikers, and Plasma Pistols were moved in their previous location.

    SPARTAN ARENA:
    http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=16819090

-- Spartan Arena was designed to be a fast paced slayer match. I wanted a map that had continual movement and removed camping. The map itself is an octahedral shape and takes up a greater portion of Foundry. All players spawn outside of the arena in various locations, and use man cannon chutes to enter the arena. A player can land in multiple locations from the chute depending on the angle and speed they enter. This helps prevent spawn camping. In each spawn area, a player may choose to pick up a carbine or a battle rifle...but both have limited ammo and are only intended for initial defense while entering the arena. After a player runs out of ammo, they are forced to use the weapons found within the map. It creates interesting gameplay and forces players to use alternative weapons. A rocket launcher can be found within the center of the map, but are not truly effective until the player reaches a higher vantage point.

    Weapons

    Battle Rifle...................7
    Shotgun.......................4 (minimal ammo)
    SMGs...........................4
    Spiker..........................2
    Plasma Pistol............2
    Plasma Rifle..............4
    Needler.......................4
    Brute Shot...................4
    Rocket Launcher.......1
    Covenant Carbine.....7
    Mauler.........................2
    Sentinel Beam...........1

Looks like too many weapons IMO.

Re: A Spartan's Arena (improved from feedback)

Are you really supposed to post a whole new thread when basically all you did was to change a couple of weapons? Sorry if I'm coming down hard on you but the moderators are pretty strict around here. (Thank god!)

Hey Draw, I remember looking at the old version of this a while ago. If memory serves, you've done a lot of tidying up! This map looks beautiful compared to the old one. I still never got to play a game here, so we should definitely do that soon.

Also, I edited the title of the thread to be at least closer to the name of the map. We do that here so no one posts thread titles like " @@=.-.=.-.= SWEET INFECTION MAP =.-.=.-.=@@" That crap is annoying. I know your title was nowhere near that bad, but I have to be fair. Keeping the titles neat makes it easy to scan the forums looking for the map you want.

Finally, those powerups floating above the map, are those just for show?

This looks pretty clean, and the weapon placement looks pretty good except I would consider 2 shotguns max. Maybe two across the way from each other would work. This reminds me a lot of both foundation and warlock.

The power ups are just for show. There is no way anyone can get to them....not even as a monitor.

And they had 4 shotguns on warlock....and foundation.....and each shotgun only has 6 shots, so it should be fine.

I also forgot to mention I added 2 portable shields to the map. It gives players on the map a chance to recover after a firefight while players are flying into the arena.

How are you supposed to get the camo and the sheilds at the top of the arena or are those supposed to be lights? Well I think this is the best "Arena" Map ever. It is is big and it has room to hide. A+

The power-ups are there for decoration. Imagine it as a scoreboard-like billboard that you'd find at a basketball game. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

EDIT: Damn, you beat me to it.
    Just one post above
You find this little gem of info, please read the entire thread before posting your questions. [/moderator]

The map looks really nice, I too prefer the underside graphics of bridges over the top side. I would definitely DL if it weren't for my broken box :( As for too many weapons that could be the case but I haven't played so count my opinion out.

Dude this looks a whole lot better from when I last saw this. Nice job cleaning it up and taking the criticism that the FH community offered. Nice work.

I definitely cleaned the map up considerably from its first version.

I personally don't believe there are too many weapons on the map. 6 of the 7 battle rifles and carbines are in the spawning areas, and they don't have any additional clips. The map also takes up nearly all of Foundry, so there is a lot of space to place weapons. Additionally, there are multiple levels on the map that help break up weapon placement as well. Once you've played it, I'm sure you'll understand my point.

You've managed to clean up the map real good. I'm definitely gonna keep this one on my harddrive for a while so I get to play a couple of games on it. Good work!

The only pet peeves I have with the map is that it's too easy to get out of, you're able to jump from the barriers up onto the walls.

Yeah, it bothers me too, I would totally go back and redo the map except I've completely run out of pretty much anything I could use to prevent a player from leaving the map. I was out of walls, double walls, double boxes, fence walls.....the only thing I had left was single boxes....and they were too big and awkward to put in the map and keep its polished arena look to it. It was a compromise, but I think it works in the end. The only game you really couldn't play on this map would be Oddball, just because people would have a reason to leave the map.....outside of that, there is no real reason to leave the map.

Draw, did you try window panels (cost $0), the A & B signs, or doors? All of those will stay put and keep a player out. Or you could go old school and do scenery locking in place with teleporters and weapon holders.

Its very difficult to block off 8 different areas....often times there aren't enough objects to do everything in uniform....and I wanted this map to look as clean as a whistle.

I used some of the window panels else where....and the signs were all used as spawn chutes. Other methods just didn't look clean enough....believe me I tried.....It ended up looking really sloppy and nonuniform....so I just ending up leaving it as is.

If I just had 16 more walls I'd be set....hahaha
