Centrifuge Author: Brute Captain Centrifuge was originally a smaller map with a somewhat similar design until the MLG Forge the Foundry contest, which is when I decided to re-invent the map. After the first floor was built, I thought about it for a while, and decided to change the map's base geometry. A few days later I finished. After a few suggestions I went back and put the final touches on it and placed spawn points and weapons, and let's not forget scenery. Map Geometry: Centrifuge is a four way symetrical map that consists of three levels. The first level is a series of three sections, an outer hallway on all four sides, an inner enclosed hallway that extends just inside the outer hallway, and a cross section in the middle where close quarter battles take place. The second level is accesible by four crates in the corners of the outer first level hallway. This second level consists of an outer walkway around the level overlooking the first level outer hallways, and an inner set of pathways configured around the cross section of the map. On each of the four sides of the second level are ramps that extend to one focal platform that by default spawns a rocket launcher. Gametype: There is no particular gametype required for Centrifuge to function the way intended. Although Centrifuge's design was focused mainly on slayer, it is compatible for Oddball, CTF, Territories, Juggernaut, and King of the Hill Variants, NOT Infection. Reccomended for territories, slayer, and oddball. Weapons: Placed on the map are two maulers, four SMG's, two Plasma Pistols, two Plasma Rifles, two Carbines, four Battle Rifles, an Energy Sword, two Sniper Rifles, two Needlers, and a rocket launcher. Players: Centrifuge plays most well with 2 - 12 players. Looks nice and clean, which Ive found to be kind of lacking with a lot of the Foundry maps. I won't get to play it until the weekend probably (stupid work), but I'll definitely come back and give you my two cents.
Good looking MLG map, can't wait to play it. One thing: don't put a sword on a MLG map; it makes for bad playing.
Wow man that looks great, but I agree with chrome, MLG = long range which brings us to the equation: 4x+BR-CC=MLG where CC=sword, solve for x
This is a reply to those who have said that there shouldn't be a sword. The map ORIGINALLY had a shotgun for the MLG submission, but then after the contest was over, I put a sword in, considering most official maps have swords as one of the main power weapons. So as a response, the sword is fine for gameplay, a sword carrier on Centrifuge can be killed by various means, and I assure you it does not become overpowered on this map.
This looks like its put together pretty well, im going to download and check it out later on. I will come back later and let you know what i think. EDIT: Okay, I checked out your map tonight with an 8 man FFA match. Included were many respected forge hub members and guilders. We all agreed that the layout of the map was pretty cool, but it could be better if it was interlocked. Also, your spawns need some major work. There was a lot of spawn kills. This could be because we played on FFA and not Team ?? The other thing I noticed about the map was that once you go into the lower area of the map, underneath everything, the only way to get back up was to completely go outside of the lower area and jump back to the top from the outside, which wastes lots of time and effort and usually resulted in being killed by someone who had just spawned out there. In conclusion, you have good potential for making maps but you just need more practice with spawn systems and balance, and maybe some interlocking. Good work.
NOTICE: I have taken suggestions made by Titmar into consideration. So, I took Centrifuge off my fileshare and edited it. I updated the spawns making them better, and also made it easier to access the second level, expanding gameplay. I interlocked a few corners to make them tighter as well. If you had previously downloaded Centrifuge, please follow the link and download this updated newer version. It still has the same name too. Also the screens on this post have been updated in conjunction with my map update. Thanks, Brute Captain.
Well, Titmar said everything I wanted to say, especially about the respawn points, so I won't repeat him. I'm learning that respawn areas are so key in making smaller maps play well in FFA situations. The only thing I would expand on would be that if it were possible, I'd eliminate the 'outer ring' all together. I feel it takes away from the really cool central layout. I looked at your available resources and it could be done, maybe. It'd be a pain, though. I've downloaded your updated version and will get back to you. I'll be interested to see how you updated it.
Well squid, I had thought about removing the outer ring. But after thought on the matter, I realized that the map would be a little too small for gameplay, kind of like exile. So, I left the outer hall in, allowing a little more expansion and freedom in the map. Thanks for the feedback though, especially from Titmar!
That's cool, I understand not wanting to have a map too much like Exile. I played it and although it was a cool layout, it totally brought out the OCD in me and just made me want to clean it up. Exile seems a little more thrown together than yours, especially if you look at his outer walls. But that's just me; the guy won the MLG contest so more power to him. I've won squat. I'm looking forward to see what you've done with the new version.
I wonder if Titmar will ever take the time to go back and try out the updated version of Centrifuge... signs point no.
