I tried to follow a tutorial where I use the smudge tool, and it I start using it and it did nothing at all. WTF? Any other suggestions on how to learn?

You understand that you can only smudge a layer with something on it, right? It's not like the brush tool in that sense.

Maybe take a screenshot of all the settings that are displayed when you have the smudge tool selected?

You're probably using a different brush type and smudge setting than he did.

    Go toooo....
    1. Window (Dropdown at the top of PS)
    2. Brushes.

That should open up a new mini-window where you can screw around with brush settings.

My cousin had the same problem. He was using the blur tool. You have to click and hold that box and three different tools will show up. The smudge tool is the finger and the blur tool looks like a drop of water.

The PS manual is pointless and a gazillion pages.
