    Download Map

    Required Game Variant: Fireball

This final Foundry version of this map was created by Gravedigger5454 and Asper49

I have not seen any original uses of the Oddball gametype before, so I decided to create one. The Furnace started as a unique Last Resort map made of containers in which players fall through the middle to eliminate powerups which protect the oddball carrier from fusion coils. I recieved good feedback on that it was a fun and original idea. But two majors problems could not be eliminated from the map-it lagged a lot and it was easy to escape the map. With the release of Foundry I decided to remake and perfect the map into what it is today. Now the map doesn't lag is completly inescapable, among other improvements.

You start at the top of a furnace, fire fills the middle, but is stopped by a powerup wall, preventing it from reaching the ground far below. In order to score points, you must fall down there and control the oddball. Unless you have the Oddball, the fire cannot hurt you, and other players can only assasinate you (impossible to avoid). If you have the oddball, you'll have to avoid fusion coils falling down (by hiding under powerups) and other players, who may attempt to beat you down after they fall. It is very hard to control the oddball for a long period time with large parties, making the game always, an intense competitive struggle to control it. As you fall into the Furnace, you ideally want to be strategic in how you fall, you want powerups to be eliminated to allow the person with the Oddball to die, but at the same time, you must be careful to ensure you can pick it up safely. Counting the creation of both versions, testing and many improvements, this map has been in devolpment for about three weeks, comments and feedback will be much appreciated.

The fusion coils had to fall right and the powerups had to work right to get it working perfectly as intended, it took a lot of testing and map tweaking to get it right.

    seems like a cool idea...

but i think that this map is really for 4-6 people. anymore, and you just wouldn't be able to hold on to the ball, and it would just become frustrating. however, a very good map when you have a few people over and LIVE craps out...

It does seem that way, but I have actually found it to be a lot more fun if you have a lot of people. A game I played here with 12 people was a lot more fun than another that I played with 5. When there's not many people, one person can just get the oddball, and win. It's more competitive and exciting with a lot of people, where it actually becomes hard to control the oddball.

Thanks, it should be in the forging 101 "Advanced Floating" now though. I now it's mentions that you can float powerups, I thought it mentioned that they can be walls to everything but Spartans as well though, I guess I thaught you something new then though :squirrel_wink: :squirrel_grouphug:
