This is a little tip for Forgers who are completely inept at geomerging not using doors (like me). (That means Mallet you can skip this one) This is a trick that I used to get objects at just the right height because sometimes the preset side and top lengths just don’t work.

Many people have probably discovered this on their own because of its simplicity but I figured I could post it for the benefit of those who have not figured this out yet.

The general idea is that you can use a bridge, or any other object (although I’ve only ever used bridges), to limit the influence of the door. This means that the door will push the object into the ground even less than using the door’s side alone.

In this first picture I used sideways doors to try and geomerge the stairs so that the top met flush with the wall on the left.

As you can imagine, the stairs sunk too far in and resulted in a rather large bump at the joint. Since I shudder at the thought of geomerging Mallet’s way I sought an alternate solution. At first I tried save-and-quitting the doors only slightly into the stairs but that proved inconsistent and I could never get them at equal depths (and I didn’t have much patience at the time). So alas I turned to the bridge solution illustrated here:

The bridge raises the door slightly off the stairs while still allowing a little edge of the side to push into the top. This time the stairs came flush with the wall and that was that.

This trick is to allow door-mergers to fine tune their work to the quality of those such as Mallet (who if you still haven’t noticed, I envy very much).

Kinda old. I remember someone who left these forums told us about this, and I've been using it ever since.

This helps a lot. I normally door merge, but I will check out Mallet's way too.

Oops sorry, I'd never seen it but I'm semi-new so that kinda explains it... I guess it's a good thing that people knew about it before I did

I will definitely use this, even though I mostly don't need to Geo Merge Stairs, but when I do, I'll use this.

Yeh you can use other objects like window panels and things for this though.

It's not meant for stairs alone, you can use it for any other object you need geomerged.

I just used stairs as an example because that was I needed geomerged.

His way is just the standard Forging 101 way but he does it really nicely

Also he is always trying to tell everyone how easy it is and that it's better than the door method.

I've seen this. but it is nice for newer forgers. I generally stick to no bridges though.
