Made by: Joe Cool 58 I. Introduction II. Map Description III. Pictures IV. Download I. Introduction First off this is my first thread post on Forgehub so if there is anything wrong with it please tell me so I can fix it. I actually built this map a while ago when I was finishing the book: Ghosts of Onyx. I was reading the end and thought about how cool it would be to try and build and recreate the final battle in forge. I started to work on it (it took quite a few days to build) and eventually came up with the map Secret of Onyx. I think it turned out pretty good but now I would like to hear what other people think. II. Map Description As stated before, this map is based on the end of Ghosts of Onyx. It's during the last battle where the Spartans have to hold off the Covenent from the top of the hill and keep them from getting into the slipstream portal. They fight until the last second until they go in themselves. The portal then closes keeping them in and the Covenent out. All gametypes have been set up for this map, but it is specifically made for one flag CTF and one bomb. This is best played with big teams of four to eight (eight to sixteen players). In one flag, the defenders (Spartans) spawn at the top of the hill while the attackers (Covenent) spawn at the bottom. The defenders have to keep the attackers from getting into the portal at the top of the hill. If you are an attacker and you die, you will either spawn at the bottom of the hill again or spawn in the Covenent supply room. There are all kinds of weapons to choose from, but the power weapons like the fuel rod gun and the sword don't respawn after being used to make it a little more fair for the defenders. The Covenent supply room is blocked off from the rest of the map. If the attackers get through the portal, they can easily grab the flag and jump out. After that it's hard for the defenders to get the flag back. The catch to this game is that the attackers have to get the flag within three minutes because once three minutes passes the portal closes off and nobody can get in or out. In one bomb, everything is pretty much the same for both teams. Defenders are on top and attackers are on bottom. The object for the attackers is to get the bomb through the portal. The plant spot is right next to the exit portal so it's really easy to arm it. This makes the defenders job on top of the hill even more important. The portal closes at three minutes in this game like in one flag. Infection seems pretty good on this map too. Just try and survive until the last second and then jump in the portal. It will close and you will be safe from the zombies. Just make sure that the zombies are not a one hit kill. They don't have very much cover and it would be unfair for them. I've set up the closing part of the portal to only spawn on asymetrical games. Games that the portal spawns on are: territories, one flag, one bomb, juggernaut, one sided VIP, and infection. Games that the closing doesn't spawn on are: slayer, team slayer, oddball, king of the hill, and VIP. III. Pictures Overview of hill Top of hill Bottom of hill/bomb spawn/flag return point Top of hill looking down Inside the portal/flag spawn/bomb plant point Covenent armory Note: the teleporter leads to one of four exits around the base of the hill. Another Note: this room is blocked off from the rest of the map. You have to use the teleporter to get out. After three minutes the portal closes. IV. Great balls of justice!!! Pretty good sumission you go there... But I don't really get what this resembles Aesthetically. Spoiler
plz try not to make armourys(yes its spelt wrong i no) but the pyramid looks incredible the interlocking is just perfect!
The concept is cool, and the interlocking looks great. But have you tested it? Is it fun? Do you have any gameplay screenshots?
very cool i have never seen anythingn like this and it looks like it took a while to forge can you just walk up the steps? i recommend you lose the armory and just place the weapons on the structure 4.5/5
I did test it a while ago and people loved it. Unfortunatly that game is gone and I haven't played it recently to get any action shots. Hopefully I will get some soon.
hello! this is my last post for tonight so ill make it good.first of all i have to state the obvious. the interlocking is impecable it has to be some of the best asthetics in a whine. i have paroosed the fors and have veiwed my fair share of pyramids and this is by far the best quality that i have seen in a while. the hole at the top is a nice addition to this already incredible map. one of my questions though is why close off the top later in the game. it is unfathomable to me. now if this is ment to be played in a competitive fashion an armory is not a good addition to a competitive map on forgehub. i do not, at the moment, have any suggestions on how to rectify this but you can ask someone else for their opinion. So in conclusion this is a wonderfully made map. Although i do not agree with some of your aspect i cannot ignore the entirty of the map which is excellent in my advanced opinion.
About the closing portal and the armory: I wanted to stay as close to the book as possible. In the book the portal closes after a while so I made this close too. I'm guessing you guys are thinking that the armory is connected to the main area. It is actually closed off from the the battle area. You have to use the teleporter to get out and then you will be placed around the base from one of the four exits. Just think of the teleporter exits as spawn points and the armory as a place to choose your weapon before you "spawn" in the main battle area.
the closing in the top of the structure, is to take more from the novel, Ghosts of Onyx. The Remaining Spartans, excluding Master Chief, are forced into a structure, with a closing center. After time passes, the opening passage closes forever, protecting them from the overbearing covenant forces... Hope that sheds some light. And nice job, I would have never thought to do this, 5/5. ... and the guy ahead of me beat me to it, by a few seconds...
This map looks really aesthetically based, but you fit the gameplay in it very nicely, I'm not to keen on the portal closing part..but thats how the sotry goes so thats how you made it. I just have one more question. "Why are there teleporters? dont you need to get down into the tempel"
I am going to tell you one thing good sir.........................You are really good at interlocking things. This looks really good and would play out really nicely. If you ever make a v2 of this turn the boxes upside down so it makes it look ever nicer.
Great job on the pyramid, it looks amazing. Have you played any matches on it though? Gameplay pictures would be nice.
I love this map and I always will. It has been on my hardrive since, he posted it on a bungie.net group! I love it and it plays well. I can't remember all of the no-scopes I have gotten on this map. 10/5
5/5. The aesthetics look great. I understand that you were trying to stay relatively close to the book as possibly, but if the portal was blocked off, then wouldn't that mean the basics of the gameplay would stop?
Love the map. Beautiful interlocking, sounds like a great story. I can tell somebody is going to make a canvas or something by deleting everything but the pyramid.
